Top 10 MMA Heavyweights of this Decade

Featured Replies

Dan Henderson is miles ahead of Ace IMO.

A few guys from this same list.

Cro Cop has been humiliated ever since coming to the UFC. You take his head kick from him and what do you have to be scared of?

I honestly forgot about Dan that a big win....

Where is Dan on the list?

If you watched MMA before 2008 you would know CC was maybe more feared than Fedor........................

No doubt about it, but Cro Cop probably done more to hurt his rep later in the decade than any fighter you could possibly name. Hasn't looked good at all inside the octagon.

But no question, Cro Cop was once upon a time the most feared heavyweight walking. He has a highlight reel of knockouts, and most coming via his headkick.

Tito did hold a UFC belt longer than anyone, I believe.

He was great in his time. He is not good anymore, I agree.

 Great competition back then.

Evan Tanner, Vitor Belfort, Vladimir Matyushenko, Wanderlie Silva, Ken Shamrock and Guy Mezger are some that he has fought and beat.

Not the best fighters in the world now, but at the time some of these guys were considered to be very good.

Cro Cop went down hill fast when he left Pride.

Once again who has Silva beat to be mentioned..........

Has he beat anyone on that list?

The best fighter he has beat is Rich Franklin.....who is so good he is regulated to catch-weight bouts.............

Randy has beat who?...........and I'm a Randy fan.

Where is Barnett?

Cro Cop belongs on the list.

Anderson Silva beat Nate Marquardt and made it look easy. Marquardt is no pushover.

Add that to wins over Forrest Griffin (former UFC light heavyweight champ), Rich Franklin (former UFC Middleweight champ) and Dan Henderson (former Pride middle/light heavyweight champ) and he has beat some decent fighters.

I'd like to see him fight some more big names though.

Couture has beat Liddell, Tito, Vitor, Sylvia, Gonzaga, Rizzo, Randleman, etc. Not to mention he's held titles at heavyweight and light heavyweight. He's a legend and deserves to be in the top 10...

He fought Silva before Silva became the axe murderer, Shamrock was 80 years old when they fought, Belfort was not the same fighter that he was in his younger days, or for that matter now. Ortiz is an overrated joke. I don't blame him for dodging Liddel as long as he did.

GSP has his faults as well. Lost to BJ Penn and Matt Serra.

Just saying if you are going to bring up Hughes defeats to GSP, and Liddells short comings as of late, you must mention GSP's.

Silva and Fedor have none of these to mention, so I couldn't argue with them being #1 and #2. I'd put Anderson at #1 over Fedor though. He's looked absolutely dominant in every fight he's been in. I've never seen him hurt, once.

Couture has to be in the top 5. Like I said before, all he does is fight for championships.

GSP never lost to BJ Penn. He lost to Matt Hughes and Matt Serra and avenged both those losses.

I meant to say Matt Hughes.

And he avenged the loss, but that's what separates him from guys like Fedor and Anderson Silva right now IMO. Silva and Fedor haven't lost those fights, at least not in a long time in Silva's case. He hasn't lost in a few years now.

Silva had already been in big fights with Vitor Belfort, Eugene Jackson, Mike Van Arsdale, etc. He wasn't untested and he had fought in both the UFC and Pride before fighting Tito. It was a championship fight.

Shamrock was around 38 when they first fought.

Belfort had wins over Randy Couture, Heath Herring, Gilbert Yvel, Wanderlei Silva, and Tra Telligman coming into his fight with Tito. He was a good fighter at the time, very good.

hoopboy, while I will agree that Tito is vastly overrated by many (mostly himself), you are trying your best to devalue every big win he has. He's not an elite fighter now, but at one point in time he was. His stand up has never been elite, but his ground and pound has always been some of the best. Unfortunately he can't stay healthy for any period of time, so he's not always able to secure take downs and show his GnP.

I'm no Tito fan and I know he's not anywhere near the top 10 right now, but he was at one point.

My point was more about when the losses occurred. The more recent images of Hughes and Liddell are defeats, while GSP has been dominant for a couple of years now. I don't disagree with what you said. I'm just saying it makes it hard to accurately rank them, IMO, because guys like GSP are at their peak right now, while Liddell and Hughes are past their prime.

I definitely don't have a problem with Couture in the top 5. I just don't think he belongs at #1.

If you really think that Silva was the same fighter that he was in Pride when Ortiz fought him, you're kidding yourself. Shamrock was 38 and done. His professional wrestling career and fight with Don Frye was the last of him. Belfort beat Couture alright. You gotta love those cuts, and Belfort too beat Silva before he became the axe murderer.

That's your opinion and your entitled to it, but I highly highly disagree. Like I said, Rampage Jackson has a better resume in the past few years than Tito's career.

I never claimed that the Silva who fought Tito was the same Silva who fought in Pride. First of all, Pride rules were different than UFC rules so that changed some things.

With that said, Silva was still a very tough opponent. If you don't agree with that, you are kidding yourself.

I'll give you the Belfort/Couture eye cut. But Belfort still had big wins over Wanderlei Silva, and Heath Herring.

And I'm still not saying that Tito is an elite fighter now. But at one point he was a top 5 fighter. Before the evolution of MMA started. Now he might not be top 15.

Yeah, I'm sure the rules, and not a new direction in training had everything to do with making Wanderlia Silva who he was. From what I saw of Oriz/Silva, he layed on top of him for 3 rounds. Heath Herring huh? That's something. You're kidding yourself if you think Ortiz was ever an elite fighter. Much like Rich Franklin, he fought in the light heavyweight division when it was extremely weak. He ran from Liddel the entrie time he was champion, and no wonder. If Franklin isn't on the list, then no way Ortiz should be.
