Obama's Job Approval By Demographic, First Full Week vs. Now

Featured Replies

Absolutely not. Covert op, put a bullet into OBL's brainpan, end of story.

If you remember, I suggested the same for Sadaam Hussein, but I was told in no uncertain terms that the US doesn't use such action these days, thus we must invade Iraq.

Our memories are different. I vividly recall a thread in which covert ops were discussed, but because it was Dick Cheney that was directing them, it was called murder and abhorrent to U.S. tactics. Those of us who defended the tactics were excoriated. Funny how memories blur on that.

Not really surprising as the realization settles in that what is promised in a campaign often cannot be fullfilled. Interesting that the black demographic goes against the tide.

This stuck out the most of any stat in the chart. However, we've been told that black folks did not vote for him because he's black, so it must just be that in this instance they disagree with Democrats, liberals, Easterners, and everyone else in the known universe.

This was pre-invasion of Iraq. I'll try to find the thread. Trust me, my memory is perfectly clear.

Apparently threads pre-2007 have been pruned. The thread I'm talking about was in early 2001. It was before we went into Iraq. I was putting forth my best effort at explaining why invading Iraq was unnecessary. I wish I could find the thread. Since you're a lawyer, I'm pretty sure you'll discount my memory because there's no "hard" evidence. But, I'm 99.9% sure it was leatherneck who refuted my theory that Sadaam could be eliminated with a covert assassination.

No, I'm not saying you've got a bad memory, and we may be thinking of different threads. The one I'm referring to was in the last 6-8 months. I wasn't on here in '01.

By the way, I win cases with no evidence all the time. You're doing very well!

I remember the thread you're talking about. We are definitely talking two different things. Before we went into Iraq, I was (surprise, surprise) very vocal about my thoughts that it was completely and utterly both unnecessary and wrong. Posters kept telling me it was to oust Hussein, and I said that I thought that could be achieved with an assassination. Then, I was told that the CIA/US didn't use such actions these days. I was skeptical, but there's no way for me to refute it, so I can't say anything. I'm still skeptical, btw. :D

Can you just imagine how the Dems would have responded to that?

I didn't intend my suggestion, nor the comments I've made in this thread to be partisan. I don't care who (which party) would say what of the idea.

It was just a question, rockmom. Geez louise.

Can you find an instance of a democratic president's job approval where the black demographic were more in lock-step with "Democrats, liberals, Easterners, and everyone else in the known universe"? Clinton finished with a job approval of 65%, I'm sure you will be equally surprised to learn that included a 90% approval rating from the black demographic (this is from ABC's final poll). Was Clinton supported because he was black? I would be more compelled by your theory if you could provide evidence of the black demographic's job approval of Clinton being more bleak than other demographics'. I would be surprised to see that in Carter's as well.

I was not referring to the base number, I was referring to the fact that Democrats, liberals, Easterners and all other categories show a fairly precipitous decline in approval from January to November, while blacks show a 1% increase in approval.

I'm aware, but the point is the black demographic is routinely out of sync with the rest of America on issues such as this. Even so, if what you claim is accurate then you should be able to find the black demographic fluctuating commensurate with the rest of the demographics over the course of Clinton's approval ratings (which would imply it moving outside the margin of error), thereby making Obama's continued approval more explainable by his race rather than political affiliation.

I don't doubt there exist voters who made an exclusively race-based vote, it just isn't to the level of black racial unanimity conservative Republicans would have everyone believe, which is particularly notable considering they simultaneously deny any existence of racial motivation among the white demographic.

Typical liberal agenda, I guess.

From day one (even before), I've wanted out of the war. Both of them.

There isn't any basis for the expectation that, once getting elected, Obama would immediately pull out of the war in Afghanistan. Numerous times during the campaign Obama emphasized that he would "get us out of Iraq and on the right battle field in Afghanistan and Pakistan". He even promised an extra billion or two in aid to Afghanistan. Therefore, any expectation that would pull out of Afghanistan in his first 10 months is extremely ill founded. Your expectations are unrealistic and so your disappointment predictable.

It's foolish to think it doesn't exist on both sides.
