I am not in favor of this because (even if unlikely) what if there are someone who appears to be even greater than MJ one day. I mean some player comes in and just is untouchable and wins 10 straight Championships(very unlikely I know), but what if it does happen or something similiar? Do we then retire this player's number also? How many players numbers are too many to retire, what is the limit?

What if Lebron switches to #6 then he wins the next 9 out of 10 Championships? Do we then retire his jersey?

I'm against this because nobody is greater than the game itself, at least I'd like to believe that. Retiring Jordan's number is just a slap in the face to everyone else who made this sport great.

If LeBron wants to give up the # to honor MJ himself (or to sell more jerseys), that's his business. Nobody else should have to follow suit just because he decided to do so.

I am fine with LeBron changing his to honor MJ, but it is not his place to lead a league wide policy against the number.

Give Lebron a supporter roster like Kobe had last year and Lebron wins won last year.

I'm against anyone have any league wide number retired no matter what they do or have done. People are too childish, and everyone will be wanting their number retired.

It shouldn't. You are deciding that Kobe is better than Lebron on the basis of something Lebron has no control of.

 

Let me ask you it this way, has Lebron played on a team that had as much talent as the Kobe/Shaq or last year's team?

 

And if you want to use the team argument, Lebron wins because he took less talented teams to the Finals and Kobe has never done something like that. His team has missed the playoffs.

Kobe has not shown to be the rebounder or passer that Lebron has. Lebron is the more complete player while Kobe is the better scorer.
