Holmes

Featured Replies

I have read some comments on BGP talking about how Holmes is an improved team this year, now that they are playing in 4A (they were in 5A last year). But is Holmes actually better this year than in 2008, or is it just a matter of Holmes playing an easier schedule in 2009, now that they are in 4A?

Holmes did play Dixie this year, and Dixie beat them 21-12. Dixie finished the regular season with a 4-6 record, including a 52-9 loss to Highlands and a 39-34 loss to CovCath. If Holmes had been in 5A, District 5 this year, they would have finished fourth (behind Highlands, CovCath, and Dixie, but in front of Scott, whom they beat 20-9 this year), which I believe is how they finished last year.

So, is Holmes actually better this year, or is their improved record due to an easier schedule now that they are in 4A? I guess this Friday's game against LexCath will tell us a lot. What does everyone think?

If Holmes were 5A this year they still might have finished in 4th place, but that doesn't mean they weren't much improved.

They didn't win many games in 2008 and except the game against Withrow they have been competitive with everyone in 2009. Yes the schedule is easier this year, but in 2008 Holmes was not competitive in most of their games.

Both! Holmes is better and the schedule is weaker. You have to build a program some how. You get better and play a weaker schedule. Weaker schedule means more wins. More wins brings excitement. More excitement brings more players. More players brings better competition at practice. Better practice equates to WINS! Sounds like Holmes has a plan.

Overall good statement. :thumb: I agree with you, buddy! Couldn't have said it any better myself. :notworthy:

I agree with you as well. But I have a question. Does that mean Bourbon lobbies to get moved down in class and get in a district that is weak. Rip off a bunch of wins and win district does that make them a better team? I don't think so. The fact is they came into a district in 4a that was IMO one of the weakest this year. You place them in District 6, the best they do is 3rd in conference.

IMO Holmes is a good team don't get me wrong, I just think alot of their success has been the drop in class and a extremely weak district across the board.

Again, don't take me wrong. I think they are a good team and playing in 5A has helped them grow into a strong 4A competitor. Those young men have worked hard and I am not taking anything away from them.

If they were in 5A they would be getting killed by Highlands and Cov Cath. But they are not, they are a good 4A football team. I think they will give LC a game but I'll say LC will end up winning 28-14.

While their record has reaped the benefits of moving down a class they are still a better team. If they had moved up to 6A they may not have even made the play offs this year. In that case IMO they would still be a better team than last year. The move down has expedited the excitement around the team but not the fact that they are a better team. That is a direct result of hard work from the players and coaching staff.

Holmes is indeed a better team this year than last year squad but it didn't hurt them at all to play in a very, very weak 4A division instead of one of the toughest 5A divisions in the state.

Now to those who say that Holmes is a 4A school playing a 4A schedule, well that is true but HHS, CovCath and I believe Scott are also 4A schools but they are instead playing a 5A schedule.

In the next year or two we will find out truly how good Holmes is when HHS, CovCath and maybe Scott move down to 4A.

If I remember correctly, it was Cov Holmes that screamed the loudest and hardest when the KHSAA allowed HHS and CovCath to move up to 5A instead of making them play in 4A and travel a lot.

My guess is Holmes is not looking forward to both HHS and CovCath moving down in a year or two.:idunno:

Holmes is better this year! I recently ran into coach Lickert and he was all smiles talking about this season and the sucess they are enjoying on the field as well as off! Great move by the coach to go to 4A and great move by the KHSAA for having the prudent regard in Homes future in allowing the change in classifications.

Yes. Holmes is better and so are about 60 young men on the squad! :thumb:
