Need help on this one

Okay, I've read this thing and read this thing and for the life of me, I can't begin to understand what in the world an "unofficial" visit amounts to. Read the bottom of the Rose Hill update in this article and see if anyone can enlighten me on this one.

FWIW, I'm going to make an unofficial visit to Bob Evans later. I wasn't invited. Thought I'd just pop in.:walk:

Robbie Barber, a 6-4 senior guard at Scott County and a former Rose Hill player, is on the radar of some Division I schools. He received invitations to visit Old Dominion and Wichita State this week.

He has also been invited to East Tennessee State and made unofficial visits to Bucknell and VMI recently.

Barber went to Scott County the same time that Dakotah Euton and Chad Jackson transferred there from Rose Hill.

I think it simply means who paid for it. I can take an unofficial visit to UCLA as long as I pay for everything like airfare, hotels, and meals. I can take an unlimited number of unofficial visits.

Official visits, on the other hand, are limited to 6 and the host schools pay my expenses.

Isn't Barber just a junior? I think the DI is trying to get him to graduate a year early.

I'm glad to see this kid final get the interest of some big time schools. He is a quality player who has struggled living up to the hype that was created when he first dunked in the 5th grade.

He dunked in the 5th grade?

That's just funny right there.

Athletes are only allowed 5 official visits to NCAA D1 & D2 schools.

How many imaginary trips are they allowed to take?

Just exactly what are you trying to say? Robbie Barber is a quality kid that has worked hard to make himself a better ballplayer. Why do you find it so hard to believe he is getting looks from colleges?

From what I've heard Barber had a very good summer of AAU and school ball. He also just finished a solid high school golf season, earning a spot on the All Central Kentucky Conference Boys Golf Team. He finished third in Conference Player of the Year points behind senior teammate Kyle Wilshire (who just signed with the University of Central Florida after strong recruiting by Duke, Illinois and Michigan.)

I've heard he is getting looks for both golf and basketball. Due to NCAA restrictions, he is not allowed to make official visits until January. He is only visiting schools that have invited him to visit and saving official visits for when they will count most during his senior year.

His primary interest is to play basketball in college, but it’s good to have back up plans in case that doesn't work out, and golf and a strong ACT score will serve him well. There's no reason to keep this thread open if people are going to use it as a spring board for their childish behavior. I wish Robbie Barber the best of luck this season.
