Just from what I read in other threads. It was the A.D. and head varsity coach fro Cooper that wanted to play with the smaller schools. On what was going to be an off week two weeks ago they did play a great game against Scott County, a good 6A school and won. Maybe the same could be asked why Scott High Scools is in with the small schools? And why did Beechood play the big schools last year and the small schools this year??? :idunno:

 

It was not Beechwoods choice last year. The entire Freshman alignment was changed last year. Instead of large school and small schools, the schools were all split east and west and the division mirrored the alignment for the NKY all-star teams. All of the teams that play with the East were togehter and all of the teams in the West were together. That is why you saw Beechwood playing the likes of Boone, Ryle and Connor. And you saw Cov Cath playing Newport, New Cath and Holy Cross. Essentialy teams that they have rairly if ever have played at the freshman level in the past. The schedule was realigned this year because the schools did not like it. Beechwood had a GREAT team last year and dominated all the games that they played, including the championship. But to be honset Beechwood is not going to have the numbers or the talent on a year by year basis to do that. My understanding is that they wanted to play "UP" this year but when they figured out their numbers issues they almost had to play with the small schools.

I agree with you about Scott....As far as BW last year, they dressed 30 freshman last year and felt they could play with the bigger schools. This year is a diffrent story (more 7th & 8th graders) with only about 8 freshman coming out to play football. I don't believe that the general public have a problem with smaller schools trying to better theirselves by playing up....At least not as much as the large schools playing down.

 

The difference from Cooper and Scott in the small division is Scott 5A is competing against Newport 2A and Holy Cross 2A that would be seed 5, 6, 7 which is the bottom of the league. Cooper will likely be #1. I understand why Cooper did what they did, but they need and deserve to be in the big division next season where they compete with like talent. Scott however needs to be and deserves to be where they can compete which is in the small division.

You missed the point completely. My post was about where schools need to be not what their enrollment status is. I stated the districts to make the point that if you have the interest in the program it doesn't matter what classification your under. I see what you are saying, this was discussed in a previous thread also. The decision was made in February based on last year's freshman team with a lack of knowledge as to how good this freshman team would be. After, with no offense to other teams, somewhat coasting through the freshman schedule so far I would almost count on Cooper playing against the bigger freshman schools next year. If you saw a freshman game last year, you'd understand why Cooper played in the lower level, some of those games were very tough for the kids. :thumb:

Your stats are misleading because of Cooper's very small senior class in the 08/09 enrollment numbers. If you remove the number of seniors, Cooper has a higher enrollment than Holmes and the same as Highlands.

 

Cooper's 242 freshman are also more than twice that of Beechwood (94), Holy Cross (104), and NCC (112).

I understand completely why Cooper did this. New program, numbers, talent...I'm sure they knew some of what they had but the call had probably already been made. Like I said earlier they should move up, and compete with the big names in football because if there program continues to grow at the current rate they may make a lot of other BC schools upset. I think they will make noise in the big division in freshman as well as varsity in the future.

I think he was getting freshman and varsity mixed up. From a varsity standpoint Cooper plays 6A when in reality are a 4A school as a whole. From a freshman standpoint I see what you're saying. He might've missed the (Frosh) in the title.

I've heard Beechwood has two big backs that play very well. This may be their chance for an upset as Cooper had at least 5, two way starters, out of practice last night due to either injury or illness. Cooper's depth will be tested. I'm just ready to watch them play after having last week off with weather cancellation.

 

With game day here how are the young men from Cooper doing? Dose it still look like they will have this many out? And, any one know if Beechwood will have food for sale? Or should I eat before I get there?
