No, the tough early season schedule is about winning playoff games and a state title. This result is simply because NCC is better than Newport. They could play the first game of the season and NCC would win.

I credit NCC for playing an absolutely brutal pre-district schedule. Ryle, Simon Kenton, Madison Central, and Campbell County from class 6A, and Covington Catholic and Dixie from class 5A. That's a tough schedule for a school in any class, much less a 2A school.

 

I bet it's safe to say they were the best 1-5 team in the state entering this game, and are now the best 2-5 team in Kentucky. If I was a 2A school, I wouldn't be thrilled when NCC week arrived come playoff time.

I think sometimes writers seize the opportunity to write about the programs we hear less about. They know there will be more articles about NCC in the month or longer ahead. Newport - this is likely one of the few big games this year where they have a chance to tell their program's story.

Did Cain play some at QB last night for NCC? I believe one of the sports casts said something about Cain playing QB.

The difference is this game for Newport was horrific officiating, on the blok punt it was clear the ball went into the end zone, they gave it to NewCath on the one. The on side kick the side judge said Newport ball and the white hat came from the other side of the field to change the call, come on now either newport had the ball or they didn't how hard is that to call. Newport's QB ran with the ball on 4th down and was took out of bounds right at the first down marker and they did not even call for a measurement. Newport could not get a call in this game. NewCath coach I think felt the same way as they was on the afficiating crew all night. Newport has no luck when they need a play they could not make one. I could go on and on but if the ball would have bounced the other way this could have been a different game.Both teams played some hit ball and 33 for NewCath can tell you about that. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year!

It was bad but NewCath is not very good either IMO. I look for NewCath to be much better next season. I dont see them making a run at state this year.
