September 30, 200916 yr Arroyo Cueto Harang Bailey Matt Maloney / Micah Owings / Justin Lehr, in that order. Maloney is a lefty & the type of pitcher that we've been missing at GABP. I like Lehr, and he's a great story. I'd give him a shot at competing for the 5th spot, but I think Maloney wins it out. This allows Micah Owings to go to the bullpen where we can best utilize his bat, too. I'd love to be able to trade Cordero and move Masset into the closer's role.
September 30, 200916 yr One interesting possibility ... The Reds need a shortstop. Milwaukee has two good ones in J.J. Hardy and Alcides Escobar. I know Hardy hasn't had a good year, but his 2007 and 2008 seasons were huge upgrades on anything the Reds have there. Escobar is a well-regarded prospect with a good glove and speed. The Brewers also need starting pitching in the worst way. I know it's difficult to trade within the division, but I wonder whether Milwaukee could be persuaded (with another prospect, maybe) to take a chance on Arroyo or Harang.
September 30, 200916 yr Bailey in his last eight starts is 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA. He's in the rotation. Arroyo has been very, very good in the 2nd half. Harang is the most likely to go, IMO. The problem is finding a suitor. I don't know if it's worth giving him away, unless we can give his contract away too. I think Harang still has some gas left in the tank, but I wonder...

After talking to his dad on Sunday, I'm not so sure. His dad is pretty confident that the Diamondbacks aren't going to pick up his option. He feels, as does Brandon, that they will decline his option, and try to bring him back at a cheaper price. Brandon will not sign at a cheaper price with the Diamondbacks. His dad went on to say that if the Diamondbacks decline his option that Brandon will be looking for a one year deal around 6.5 million. He said that St. Louis would be his top choice, but that Brandon has said that he definitely wouldn't mind pitching for the Reds, and that he knows that Bob Miller is a huge fan of Brandon's.

September 30, 200916 yr Bailey is throwing really well for someone with a bad arm, good thing he wasn't traded for Dye. He has thrown well lately, but still has an era just a shade under 5, he ain't exactly had a great year. Big improvement though, and I'm glad he didn't get traded for Dye too.

I'm not holding my breath that he'll be able to compete for the starting SS position next year. I'd love for it to be JJ Hardy, who I would give the starting position to, but that's not going to happen.

I'm sure it's a player from a list of five or so, and I'm sure they're middling prospects at best.
