As far as the poll itself, well, national polls are what rational high school sports fans laugh at...they make the BCS look like a credible way to pick a champion. :lol::lol::lol:

Yeah, it's a nice thought to have them ranked, but until we have a national high school playoff, I think you're right.

Unfortunately, I'n not so sure. Every year the USA Today waits a few weeks before publishing their final rankings, and sometimes there are some noticeable shifts near the top in that final list. I know the USA Today usually gives a lot of respect to state championship teams from powerhouse states like Ohio. It will be interesting to see if HHS gets leap-frogged or not. I think the final rankings are put out around Christmas or something.

Hope for the best, they did win their Championship game pretty convincingly, and they've been there several times before. Plus their senior class was prosssilby the best ever. In the end it doesn't matter, just another spot on their list of accolades for those on the team to reflect upon down the road.

Ditto! a lot of top-ranked teams lost this weekend... maybe Highlands can finish in the top five in the final USA Today rankings. I know these rankings don't mean much to a lot of people, but a lot of people do follow them across the country, and it would be really cool for the program to have a top-five national ranking!!!!

I think someone said the final rankings come out late in December, and that they often do a lot of moving around of teams at that time.

 

Highlands rolls:

 

No. 6 Highlands (Fort Thomas) defeated John Hardin (Elizabethtown) 35-7 for the Bluebirds' third consecutive Kentucky state 5A championship. It was Highlands' 19th title, which ties it with Trinity (Louisville) for the most in the state.

My guess it that Highlands will be ranked 4th in USA Today and sadly will probably still end up 2nd in Kentucky in the Litkenhous ratings.:lol:
