If Beckett and Lester are healthy, and stay true to previous playoff form, I like their chances in a series against anybody. But, the Sox margin for error is not what it used to be because Manny is gone and Ortiz is not the player he once was. So, not only have you lost their production, but more importantly in the postseason, you've lost their ability to deliver big hits at crucial moments. I think its similar to the Yankees during their great run with guys like O'Neill, Bernie Williams and Tino Martinez. They replaced those guys with better production on paper, but they couldn't replace that ability to make the big plays in the big moments. The Red Sox and Yankees need somebody to step into that role if they want to win another World Series.

Back in April I remember telling the Yankee bashers the season is a long one and I wasn't worried. Now that they have made it come playoff time we need better starting pitching and now I'm worried. I'm gald to be a Yankee fan and looking forward to the playoffs.

And, with that, I must say that I never thought I'd see the day that Yankees fans were so excited just to make the playoffs. I thought only teams like the Brewers and Rays celebrated playoff berths like championships. Have the expectations dropped that much? For goodness sake guys, act like you've been here before!:sssh:

 

For the Yankees, making the playoffs ought to be expected. Winning a World Series is the only laudable performance for them at this point.

 

With the Yankees, making the playoffs is demanded every year and not just as the WC but as AL East Champions and a WS Title is expected in every season. That mindset imo is a difference in the Yanks and alot of teams.....the Yankees expect a championship in every season where others just hope for one or just hope to be in the post season.

 

Yes, it has been a while (way too long between titles) but imo when you go into a season without WS title exectations then you have already gave others an advantage an admitted you're not as good as them.

I hope the Yanks can return to Glory this season. At any rate, it is going to take anyone a loooooong time to catch up to the 26 World Series Championships that rest in the Bronx.

I can only speak for myself but I expect it every season from the Yanks and am just not "happy to be there" like some that you mentioned. Being a long time Yankees and Reds fan at least I can expect it from the Yankees, as for the Reds I maybe expect them to be in the NL central race untill the all star break:lol:. Hopefully the Reds will return to power sometime before I die but I have my doubts.

Well I am sorry that you have to battle just about every year in a weak division to make the play-offs. But atleast 15 out of the past 16 years we have been there so? Plus we play in a much better division.

Also, I absolutely do agree with your assessment of the Ravens (crows) on your avatar. My favorite NFL team is whoever plays trhe Ravens on any given week. I have hated them and Art Modell ever since he killed the Browns.
