They will do good in 4A.

Congrats to Holmes, and good job by Cooper. You all are definitely showing that in a year or two your going to be probably one of the top teams in the area. I think right now people should start talking about the job Coach Borchers has done there so far. He has done a great job with the program. I know its only a few games into the season however Coach Borchers right now definitely has to be an early candidate for coach of the year in the area.

Little Short Summary from the Game last night:

 

Game got started off on the wrong foot for Cooper. Defense came out and had one of the Holmes RB's tackled in the backfield, forced a fumble, didn't follow through on the tackle and the RB picked up the fumble and ran for about 60 yards down to the 15 yard line or so. From there Holmes scored. Cooper come back with a nice kickoff return to set them up deep in Holmes territiory. Turned it over on 4 downs. Little things like that is what beat Cooper tonight. Cooper had the ball 3 times in the red zone and didn't score.

 

Not taking anything away from Holmes, because they are a very good football team and will make some noise this year in 4A, but this score easily could have been different. I know Holmes didn't play their best game tonight, but Cooper didn't play well at all. A couple times they had Holmes down, getting penalties, personal fouls, etc. and couldn't convert. One thing that was a little disturbing on the Cooper side, the kickoff return the young man from Holmes returned was beautiful, but there were 2 block in the backs right in front of one of the officials that wasn't called. In Holmes defense, Cooper did the same thing on one of their big punt returns that wasn't called, but not as obvious. IMO officials were a little rusty tonight, but rusty to both teams which I will not complain about.

 

Bottom line: Big plays killed Cooper last night as Holmes had just enough speed to break 2 long runs, which was the difference in the game.

Good point CooperPride.... A loss is a loss... no sour grapes here. Cooper had plenty of shots to win this game and they didn't do it. They seem to be like sleeping giants in the 1st half. IMO they need to work in more players, defense's will key on #1 all night long.

The officials did blow a few calls and thats a shame. Lets hope they get better.

 

The fumble you spoke of was a fluke, it bounced right back up in the Holmes RB's hands and he was able to keep running like nothing ever happened. Cooper did block a punt and a quick thinking Jaguar caught the ball and made a huge play.

Holmes is looking tough. If they can keep everyone healthy, eligible, and with the program then they could make some noise this year around the state. They are athletic, quick, and can make big plays. Interesting to see if they can keep this up.
