If Kentucky is resistant to change, then Kentucky is stupid, because between the Democrats and Republicans in DC and at home, it is a disaster. I don't think Kentucky is resistant to ALL change.

 

Anyways, sans maybe the guns in national parks, I haven't seen too much change from President Obama- heck, in terms of monetary policy, attempts to balance the budget, and methods of stimulating the economy, even him and Bush are a dead match- from his own party, as a guy like Paul is willing to do.

 

Perhaps Grayson is too, I'm still waiting on evidence before I condemn him. I just know that Rand is an excellent candidate, and I'll support him otherwise, even if Hearsay thinks I'm just a gullible Rand-o-phile

 

I definitely think that Kentucky as a state is definitely resistant to pretty much all change.

 

As to Rand, my thoughts are these....I don't doubt he sincerely would want to bring about change in State politics. I also firmly believe that Obama wanted/wants the same in Washington. Where it all breaks down is everyone else at the table. But what will happen if Rand wins and the changes he wants to bring about don't happen, is the same thing that's happening right now with Obama.

Are you saying that Rand Paul is NOT a change from other politicians? I didn't see much different about President Obama from other Democrats (in fact, I started a thread asking about it), but Rand Paul's positions are less in line with a party platform, and more in line with personal conviction. Heck, even if I disagree with him on some positions, at least he's standing up for what he believes in, not party politics.

 

And an outsider? Rand lives and works in Bowling Green, and has for quite a few years now.

Sure he helped his Daddy run for election, and yes he has been involved in Community activities in BG, but as far as I can tell he has never had to cast a vote in public as a Councilman, County Commissioner, State Office Holder, or any elected office in the Commonwealth of Kentucky!

 

Sorry, but before I vote for someone to represent me in Washington, as the US Senator of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, I want some proof, public record that he will do, what he claims he will do.

Because his policies are different than what the Republicans or Democrats have to offer. I will admit that I haven't seen Grayson on the issues...does anyone have the details? Does he have a site that does issue by issue?

Fair enough. I tend to give more credence to guys who haven't been in politics. Where do you all think that guys learn to compromise their values for the good of the party, and get theirs before helping their constituents? They learn it at the local and state level. I'd rather someone who has their beliefs, not the parties, and shows up in Washington not willing to sacrfice what they believe, and that is what I see in Rand Paul.

Officeholders I believe are MORE accountable to constituents at the local and state levels than at the federal level, because they are right there where the constituents can get access to them. The further you get from home, the less accountable you have to be.

 

One of my objections to Rand Paul is that he hasn't started out in any local capacity. Has he been a voice for his children's local school board? Why not? If he was upset by the direction of the state why didn't he do something about it and become a state representative? Or a county magistrate? Why is he STARTING out looking for a Senate seat? Since I think even Rand would concede that Trey Grayson is better-than-your-average-bear for the Republican Party, why keep him out? Why not look elsewhere and get BOTH of you in office where you BOTH can help the conservative issues you support?

Also a fair assessment. I'd like both of them representing KY as well- just Rand first. And you are right that Rand's time to strike is now; due to his father's popularity, he has a shot. Trey Grayson is a "bigshot" in KY and will get into Senate now, and I'd love to support him in future races.

I am a lifelong Democrat and if Trey Grayson gets the Republican nomination for Senator I would be hard pressed to vote fo Dr. Dan .

Anyways, I have no idea what Grayson stands for issue-by-issue- I don't follow KY politics, and no one on this site has given us his stances. I do know what Rand Paul says, and I won't assume he is liar until he does something hypocritical. I don't trust politicians either, but Rand isn't a politician, so I won't assume he is lying until he does. Furthermore, everything that I know about him indicates that he won't be about obtaining more power for politicians in DC, unlike the men and women that you and the rest of America have been electing for the last 80 years.

I wanted to respond to this post after looking back.

 

For something local, Rand Paul founded the Kentucky Taxpayers United in 1994. As for why Dr. Paul didn't start smaller...I think his main grudge is with the Federal Government, and, as his site says, "his entrance into politics is indicative of his life’s work: a desire to diagnose problems, and provide practical solutions."

 

Also, on the bolded, now that Rand is leading Grayson in the polls, why doesn't Grayson step aside and look elsewhere, so they both can be in office? Since you know Trey, maybe you can suggest it, because I think I could vote for Grayson, if he wasn't against such a good candidate.
