Reds play 2 today...

In the 1st, they win with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th on a wild pitch.

Stubbs led off the game with a HR & followed up with another hit in his 2nd AB. He then stole 2nd.

Kip Wells pitched well, going 6 innings & giving up 2 runs. High pitch count, but good enough for the 1st game of a doubleheader with a tired bullpen.

What was the actual attendance today? I didn't get to see, but I heard from others that there was nobody in the stands.

Yeah, Tom and Chrissy on several occasions mentioned about the late game that there were "plenty of seats still available." There couldn't have been more than a few thousand there today.

Joe Kay's story said there was fewer than 2,000.

Less than an hour before the game, John Fay reported that there were 76 people there. And that was an actual count.

Later, he posted that there were 26 people in the RF stands with 4 ushers.

Well they haven't exactly been packing them in GABP this season (the Reds are 24th in home attendance) but this is extreme even for them. This may put them in jeopardy of falling behind, gulp, the Royals into 25th place.

Why they made it a day - night doubleheader is beyond me. They were hoping for two separate gates ($$$) but I think it backfired.

Good to see 2 wins & Cueto pitch well, though.

The Reds beat the Pirates 6-3 tonight. It was the 2nd game of today's DH, before a Great American Ball Park record-low crowd of 9,087. The park opened in 2003.

(Drew Stubbs 2-run HR in 8th inning lifted Reds from 4-3 lead to 6-3; his 2d HR of the day). Cueto wins his 1st since 7/1; save Cordero.

This afternoon, the Reds won the first game 4-3 before an announced crowd of 13,051. Actual attendance was estimated at between 1,500 to 2,000, as the game was a make-up of an April 10 rainout.

The previous GABP low was 9,878 on April 28 of this year, in a Tuesday night game against Houston.

I listened to 700 WLW call in show after the game and they said 1450 at game time and a little over 1700 went thru the turnstiles by game's end. It was funny, as they had people who were at the game to call in. One guy said he was sitting on RF line between first base and RF and said he could hear the mitt pop from bullpen in CF. Another caller said he was sitting midway up in lower section and you could hear Marty's call of the game that they pipe in to the TV monitors at the concession stands. At least they announced that anybody with a ticket to first game could get in free to night game.

Wow. Look at this lineup. Is it any wonder the Reds aren't competing and are having attendance issues?
