Simon Kenton 29 Newport Central Catholic 8

Dominated every stage of the game? They surely didn't dominate in the field position category. Seemed like NCC played on a short field every possession. Miles wasn't even close to 100% and he still had some nice runs even with a bum ankle. He probably had close to 50 yds rushing in limited action. Very good to see SK's supporting cast making plays. Powell has a bit of juice, he could be a very nice combo with Miles once #30 is healthy. Lawrence had a nice game, just after one game the passing attack has improved greatly and I feel it will get better with Miles and now Powell from the backfield and Winkler and Carroll on the outside. On defense Baldwin and Lockard played a nice game. You could really tell the NCC boys were flat wore down late in the game. They played their rears off, and for once they were less talented than SK, and it's not often you can say that about these two programs. As long as NCC can stay healthy, these games against the larger schools can only help prepare them for the playoffs. SK still has much room for improvement, I expect the Dixie game to be quite a fight.

Simpson only had like 6 carries and went off the field limping.

As long as Miles is ready for the district portion of the schedule there should be no worries. They have Dixie, Shroder and HC so that's four weeks. I know Nick Repka will have him ready. I hate to see Miles injured but this can only help the other offensive skill players, and that should make SK a better offensive unit.

Newport Catholic had better step it up if they want to make yet another run in the playoffs. I know that Coach Schneider will definately have the boys looking better for next week.

Although, Newport Catholic has an even bigger challenge ahead of them in Madison Central. They had better come ready to play and be prepared to cut down the dumb mistakes.

Great win for Simon Kenton. They obviously wanted it more than the Thororughbreds.

Miles walked onto the field limping..

NCC moved the ball extremely well, but kept shooting themselves in the foot. Thought SK made great adjustments at half time on "O" and "D". Looked as if NewCath had at least 8 in the box most of the game, so Marksberry decided to put the ball in the air more and made NCC do the same. NCC's QB is going to be a real player though. Thought #8 Zach Carroll could have been player of the game though.

I don't think that desire had as much to do w/ it as having a lack of depth against a superior opponent.

I will say that some stand-out players are coming to the front. Jake Smith needs to get more press. He's a dominant DE, dominant. I believe that he is better than his brother Justin, and Justin was 1st team All State in the Courier Journal. The other is Jake Cain #15. He is a tremendous linebacker. Everytime he goes to make a tackle, the ball carrier knows that he's been hit.

Also, how long did Moeller take to get all of their players into the locker room in the 3rd quarter? It was like a huge congo line of enormous kids.

I agree Mexitucky, Smith is a very solid player. Good experience for Hansel, and Smith held his own against a future D1 Olineman. Just how big is he? From what I could guess I'd say 6'2"ish, 265?

Right around that range. Incredibly strong kid, incredibly strong.

I agree also, Smith's heart is as big as his body! It shows with every play! He does need more press!:dancingpa
