Bethlehem 50 Fort Knox 0

Featured Replies

The streak extends to 33 for Fort Knox.

Bethlehem's defense was incredible, holding Fort Knox to only 15 yards of offense in the first half. It didn't get much better after that.

I thought Fort Knox might get the season opening win tonight. Boy, was I wrong.

As I told Jim, the game was awful to watch.

I thought it would be the game that snapped the streak, but it just didn't happen. Knox couldn't stop Clay Owens (96 rushing yards, 94 passing) or Casey Robinson (63 rushing, 44 receiving, 4 TDs).

Knox finished with 10 total yards. Yikes.

On a side note: Bethlehem senior Casey Robinson found out shortly before the game that his grandfather had passed away, leaving him with a very heavy heart. You have my deepest condolences, Casey.

Looks like another long year for the Eagles.

The amazing thing about Ft. Knox is they were actually ranked ahead of two teams in the BGP preseason poll. Can't imagine how those two teams must feel.

:notworthy:

Game was fun to watch if you were a Bethlehem fan. Bethlehem's speed made Knox look like they were standing still. Bethlehem will have a much better year this year if they keep riding their horses. (Owens, Robinson, Wimpsett)

Fort Knox comes to FC on 11 September for the Army Bowl. Both teams would probably get more out of a bye then playing eachother. FC should have plenty of underclassmen gaining experience on the field for the majority of the evening.

It's a shame that Fort Knox's program has fallen on such hard times. They have a tremendous history:

Three state championships - 1983, 1988, 1990

Two state second place - 1984, 1996

Thirteen district championships - 1960, 66, 78, 82-86, 88-90, 95, 96

24 playoff appearances, with a 37-21 all-time postseason record.

Will Fort Knox ever get back to that level? I do remember a few lean years in the late-1990s at Fort Campbell but they've roared back with a vengeance. Hopefully Knox will do the same.

Look for Fort Knox to recover in 2011 and thereafter once BRAC is implemented.

I don't know what BRAC is. I assume it's a new military rule of sorts. Could you expand on that for us not in the know, Jim?

In 2011, the Army is doing a major shuffling of units and where they will be stationed. BRAC stands for "Base Realignment And Closure," and the results will be several thousand additional troops being stationed at Fort Knox, as well a number of administrative operations being relocated to the base, bringing in more long-term military and civilian support personnel to the area.

Fort Knox HS, Central, North and John Hardin, E'town, LaRue Co., Meade Co., Bethlehem, Bardstown, Nelson Co. and the new Thomas Nelson High School all figure to benefit (sports-wise and otherwise) from the additional population.

Wow....that would huge for all schools in Hardin County.

They'll benefit the most, obviously. But we've had groups of people who will eventually be transferred to Ft. Knox come over to Nelson County to scout for homes and to see what other amenities the Bardstown area offers. LaRue, Meade and Bullitt counties figure to get some spin-off as well.

I beleive it will be another long season for Fort Knox.
