I know I've asked you at least a dozen times and I'm sure you've answered at least a half dozen times but I don't remeber your answer so I'll ask again. Do you think this will cause a lot of companies to make it harder to get private insurance? For example I work for a very good company, but we're owned by a company from out of the country. What is going to stop them from pricing my insurance so high that I'm almost stuck getting the government plan? If that happens to some of the smaller companies where does it end? These are my concerns about the "reform". At what point do we get to a place where we're basically "single payer" unless you are pretty wealthy?

I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't go down, but I'd also guess that in the next 7 years more than 3 million people will need insurance that don't currently have it so the percentage of privately insured members will go down. I hope they're right, but I doubt it. Stuff is said all the time that ends up being dead wrong. The government will either spend a huge amount of money by rasing taxes which I don't like or try to price out the private plans which I hate. Either way I don't believe half of what is being sold and spun right now.

FWIW, I was going to formulate a similiar response like this, but I didn't want to give the bballfamily the impression that people actually pay attention to ridiculous posts like that.

The bill you mention has zero chance of passing, thus, this is an academic discussion.

I wasn't actually talking about the CBO when I was saying stuff is said all the time that is wrong. I doubt however that the CBO is right or wrong all the time. I've heard estimates that 80M people would lose their private insurance b/c they are priced out of it. If your 3 million number is correct that seems pretty accurate to me b/c I'd guess at least 83M people need insurance that don't have it in the next 7 years.

The point being made is that it is more than fair to consider prior statements/beliefs of individuals now holding very high positions of power - regardless of whether one believes the person has the ability to accomplish those stated goals or not.

I don't think it would be AS bad as people say but I'm hesitant to believe that its the best solution.

Intent and result are not always the same. You want to scare people about an issue, mention Hitler. Age old tactic.
