Run To State Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Nice segment by John Stossel. This reform by the Obama Administration has me concerned.
Clyde Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Don't we need the President actually proposing single payer to have to have this video be of value?
SSC Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Don't we need the President actually proposing single payer to have to have this video be of value? I guess you missed his quote from 2004 about that being his ultimate goal. The big question out of this is what will happen to ABC now? O can't be happy w/ them. If he's unhappy w/ a news outlet that might mean little to no coverage for them.

When he pushes for a bill advocating singler payer, call me. Until then this is nothing more than an academic exercise.

It tells you what his mindset is and beliefs are. He very well may not be able to get through a single payer system, but it worries me that he would support such a concept and you really can't deny that he said as much.

He can wish for whatever he wants when he's not he leader of the country. However, once he assumes that role he has to take into account more than just what he wants. My point is that the attached video is completely irrelevant to today. What's the value of it if single payer is not being advocated?

What's the value of it if single payer is not being advocated? I may be wrong, and you may find it irrelevant, but is not the United States National Health Care Act before our Congress currently sponsored by Rep. John Conyers, D-MI, with 85 cosponsors as of July 9, a bill that would create universal health care through a single payer?

cch5432 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 There is. Then how is Stossel's academic exercise irrelevant? Is that not what the President supports? (I'm asking because I don't know) Furthermore, even if President Obama does not support it, Stossel's segment is relevant because there actually is a bill in front of Congress advocating the single-payer. Why does it need to be the President who supports it- it is our legislator's who create our laws, not the President, correct? (Also, on a tangent of my own curiousity, has President Obama vetoed anything in his short term as President? Specifically from his own party?) FWIW, I haven't watched the video, so I hope I'm not off base.

lynks66 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 The bill you mention has zero chance of passing, thus, this is an academic discussion. Would you support the bill if it did pass?
cch5432 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 The bill you mention has zero chance of passing, thus, this is an academic discussion. I'm not the expert on knowing which bills will and won't pass, so I'll ask- why won't the bill pass? Could it be because investigative journalists like Stossel inform the public on the negative consequences of such a bill passing, and representatives hear from their constinuents? Or is there another reason it won't pass?

Until then this is nothing more than an academic exercise. If you don't believe that's what he wants I'm not sure what to tell you. It's fairly obvious what he wants to happen and what he thinks is best. He's great at saying one thing and wanting another. Did you see the quote on the video from a more recent debate than 2003-2004? I hope you never need care and have to wait to get it.

Again, what he WANTS and what he can actually get through the Congress are not one in the same so its useless to speculate on something that Congress will not pass. What quote do you refer to?
