MMA News: Anderson Silva to Move Up to Light Heavyweight Permanently?

^ Just read that as well...I don't think that either Marquardt or Maia are more deserving of a title shot than Hendo...but that's just me.

Me thinks Silva and his manager realize that Dan got off his gameplan and and Silva was fortunate to win..............Dan is a better fighter than either of those guys.

Hendo deserves it. Then the winner of Marquardt/Maia should fight the winner of Silva/Hendo.

Hendo always has a chance I guess, but he wont be the one to beat Anderson. I do agree tho that it will take a great wrestler with a great chin to beat Anderson/Lyoto.

What exactly was it? Get him down and lay on top of him with his hand over Silva's mouth? That is really all he did to Anderson in that fight.

I think Hendo has what it takes as well. We'll see...

Me too. I don't think he'll actually beat Silva, but he's on the short list of fighters who, IMO, could do it.

I'd love to see it. Hendo is probably my favorite fighter.

That's all I saw as well...and I'm a big Henderson fan. I give him credit for actually being able to take Silva down and control him from the top. However, Silva was just conserving energy, IMO...as long as Henderson wasn't going to mount any real threat, he wasn't going to waste his energy trying to get up.

I'd just like to see Hendo get another shot to see what he could do now that he's actually been in the cage with Silva. There's no way you could prepare for a guy like that in training because there's nobody else like him...now that he's had a go with him, I'd be curious to see what he did the next time.

My guess...Henderson suffers the first KO of his career.

One more thing about Silva...

The way he can switch stances and it doesn't affect his striking at all is a huge advantage for him. He can go southpaw or not...

So, a fighter can't prepare for one or the other, and in the fight you could never get a feel for him or get in a comfort zone. Also, if his opponent was good at right leg kicks, he can just switch stances to nullify it.

Are there any other fighters who can switch stances without losing some effectiveness like Silva does? Just wondering. I can't think of any, but I've never really paid attention to it before. It just occurred to me in the Griffin fight when one of the announcers mentioned him switching stances, and I realized that he could do it and it doesn't affect his fighting in the least.

Hendo/Silva would be a nice matchup. Dan can take shots with the best of them, this is evident by the Rampage fight. Jackson tagged him more than a few times, and never knocked Hendo out. His wrestling and strength will also play a big part in keeping him in the fight.

Silva rocked him bad though...that's how he got in position to choke him out. Dan got caught in an exchange and got hurt. He had to drop to the ground or he was going to get knocked out. That's a testament to Silva's power, IMO. You don't see Hendo get hurt that bad from strikes usually.

And, I agree. He and Rampage exchanged some vicious shots and neither guy seemed to get hurt. Both are tough. But, that also shows how scary good Anderson Silva really is. Power and precision.

Now that I think about it, Im not sure if Anderson is right or south paw since he switches so much. I cant think of anyone else who can do that either.

I think he's a southpaw. But, in reality, he's both because he can fight just as effectively either way. I've seen him drop guys with his left and right hand. And, I've seen him unleash devastating kicks and knees with either leg. He's a freak. There's no one else like him in MMA. Hopefully, as the sport evolves, it will evolve into a bunch of Anderson Silva's fighting each other. Now that would be entertaining.

Who would win if Silva fought himself?

Actually I'd say the plan was to take him down repeatedly, while wearing him down and eventually winning via ground and pound or referee stoppage.

I would agree. But, Henderson didn't really try to do much when he did have him down. Perhaps he couldn't get into the position he wanted, in which case I'd have to give Silva credit for controlling that.
