Said NK wanted a big name to get some publicity for what they did. The negotiations group offered Al Gore and they balked at him. Wanted a former President and held out till they got Willie.

What "deal"? What are we giving them in return?

 

That seems to be the question that Washington has yet to answer.

 

I really don't want to sound too political outside that forum, but it scares me that our offer to the North Koreans for the women's release was not given publicly. Remember, it was the Clinton Administration that gave so much to the Chinese and we didn't know about it until later. If Bill Clinton did indeed have a role in the negotiations, which I doubt, this would be a major concern.

Mcpapa,The reason I believe Fox News regarding the deal being done prior to Clinton's arrival is the fact that he got there, had a photo opt, Kim Jong Il pardoned them and they left and will be home shortly. All too convenient to have transpired while having their picture taken.

To my knowledge, it hasn't been told to us. I may have missed it, but I haven't heard. I would like to know as well. The Secretary of State has only said that the negotiations were not related to the nuclear discussions.

Looked at another way, the deal wouldn't have been done unless a prominent American (Clinton or Kerry is what I've read) came to the table.

 

You would think a government that is going to be based in transparency would let us know.

Oh, I did see an interview ran on ABC News where Hillary Clinton apologized to the North Korean government for the journalists being where they were not supposed to be.

 

I guess this is the first strategy by the Obama administration. APOLOGIZE.

Obama probably didn’t want the visit to be “official” by sending someone in the administration. I guess a former President who is the husband of the current Secretary of State is official in government terms.

Okay I am not being clear.

 

The clip came from an interview she had about a week ago. At that time, she said it was her understanding that the journalists where in a location that they were not allowed to be and were trespassing. As a result, she apologized to North Korea for them being somewhere they were not supposed to be.

 

The apology was not done this week.

 

But she DID use the word APOLOGIZE.
