brad_bchs Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Who attended? I know I saw several kids from other area schools (Pineville, Middlesboro etc.) I'll be the first to say in this thread, the speed this Bell County team is fielding is going to be downright scary. They all looked very fast and elusive. I for one wasn’t overly impressed with John Dudley at running back. But Dominic Carton, Cory Davenport and freshman Jonathan Polly (#25 for those who doesn’t know who he was) all looked like some possible huge playmakers and headaches for other teams to deal with if they all hit the field at the same time. Davenport looked like he has some incredible moves to avoid tackles in the open field. Also, seniors Matt Raines and Keith Lowe both looked to be in tremendous shape and ready to lead this Bell County team. Raines will be a headache for opposing teams in all aspect of the game, regardless what position he plays. The quarterback situation I'm not sure of. Madon looked like he’s got a pretty good arm and has good decision making, but personally I think freshman Oslonian has the better arm of the two, just couldn’t control the snap from under center in drills. The defense will as always be a tough one to score on, or even move the ball on. Also, anyone who’s been attending practice, I'm curious what is wrong with Billy Lawson, I noticed he wasn't in pads and didn't practice at all.
Commander 25 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I attended I think that overall they look like they have alot of work to do. I don't think that the freshmen can play QB right now he has a long ways to go. As far as JD at running back I think they are trying to be able to get into a power running game they need another back in there for power. As far as Billy Lawson I asked Coach Hoskins why he wasn't dressed abd he told me that Billy had a sore hamstring and he didn't want it set him back a few weeks. Overall I thought that the Bobcats looked good but it looks like they have a lot of work ahead of them.
Mama Bear Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 What sort of events did they have at midnight madness last night? Do you all still feel like this year's team will be better than last year's team? Has Bell went out in full pads yet?

It was the first day Bell could go first in pads alot of excitement just like a football game on Log Mtn. Lights were on and people were excited.

Commander, I agree with the QB statement, I was just saying it looked to me like he(Oslonian) had the better arm of the two, just could not for some reason hold onto the snaps. Also, my first pick for a power running game would be Carton over JD, did you see him flat out running over kids in drills? I was told by one of the guys on the team the reason he was pulled from the drills and had to watch the rest of the night was because tempers started to flare up between him and a friend of his on the team after a drill. I sure hope Billy's injury is just a sore hamstring and it heals completely. He's a defensive force. Either way, their is alot of work to do but to me this team looked very, very athletic and fast and is full of playmakers. Mama Bear, I think by the end of the season once everything starts firing for this team, it has more then enough potential to be better than last years team.
Log Mountain Boy Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I hate I had to miss Midnight Madness, but I heard they looked very good. Its really a great event that generates a lot of excitement in the community regarding Bell Co. football. Bell Co. has so many weapons on offense that it will be interesting to see how they play. They probably have the O'line and the backs to line up in wishbone and run it down most team's throats, but also have the recievers to give teams headaches in the passing game. I think IMO the biggest question mark will be the D-line. They lost a couple really good ones. Maybe someone could inform us a little more about who will be playing D-line this year.
mtn mafi Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Billy Lawson 6' 255 4 year starter, Cody Marcum 6' 3" 265, started several games last year will anchor it. The other 2 are up for grabs right now. I don't want to speculate, but the frosh. David Hoskins 6'2" 255 looked awful good Friday night, Justin Patterson is a possible replacement. Joseph Collett is working hard for a def. start to go along with his offenseive line starting position.
brad_bchs Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 Patterson looked pretty good at TE to me also. He's a big kid, looked like he's got enough speed to help the receivers stretch the feild some. I'm very excited for this comming season, can not wait!

Patterson did look pretty good the other night.
Benz_Trophies Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 How did the Bell/ Washington County Scrimmage go?
mtn mafi Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 It was good. Washington County very young, played very hard though! Seneca was there also, they are loaded with athletes, Bell held their own with them. Didn't keep score, just did 10 plays and rotated but it was a great way to kick the season off down at Tick Creek! :thumb:
