I just hope none of your players are hurt this year. It is very disappointing, sad and your heart just goes out to the players to see these young man try and give all they have and can't because of being hurt. Not to acknowledge this I feel is being very insensitive....dosn't matter who the players are or what team they play for.

 

My heart went out to Ritchie Phares last year when he tore his ACL and could not play. Same for Jon Vanhoose for Russell a few years ago.

 

To watch Cory Rogers lay on the floor for 30 minutes and not move....and then be carried off the floor on a stretcher. Then have to go through 2 surgeries and sit out 6 weeks. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

Who didn't play last year in the Region Finals? I know one player Pelvus (sp)?

 

I know that Stenzel played, Rogers, Hatton, Zollo and the PG played.

Mason and Clark are the pre-season pick to win the 10th region. Is there a favorite, have to give the nod to Mason County just for the mere fact it will be played on their home court. Clark has better talent, but who will fill the void as a PG. If I am coaching Mason, I am pressing the entire game, running different players at Stenzel, and trying not to let them to get into a halfcourt set. If I am coaching Clark, I try to develop a point guard quickly, take my lumps in regular season with him, and hopefully it pays dividends come March. BTW, heard thru the grapevine, restroom facilities are top notch. They even have toilet paper now.

Of course, if a team gets a couple guys banged up it's absolutely something that should still be debated months later. Hey, if a team wins a region title and their region final opponent doesn't have the same starting five as they did the first week of December, maybe we should even petition the KHSAA to put an asterisk by their state tournament appearance.

 

Honestly, I'm not from either school, or even this state for that matter. Just trying to call out a double standard for what it is.

You're a true Mason Co fan.

For what it's worth, I honestly don't have an alliance anywhere in KY. I live in Maysville, watch a ton of basketball in the area and would prefer to see the teams in Mason, Bracken, Fleming, Lewis and Robertson counties do well, but that's about the extent of it.

Yes Purvis was out. All that you mention played, but where no way even close to 100%. Rogers had just came back after sitting out 6 weeks enduring 2 surgeries and a broken nose....we thought he was done for the year. He was out of shape and couldn't see, because of the mask...tore it off in 4th quarter. Hatton, 2 high ankel sprains., Zollo, high ankel sprain from the night before. He sat out 3rd quarter, did return but you could tell he was in alot of pain. I saw Zollo and Hattons ankels, they should not have played. But being of the high character they are, they gave all they could for the team. Pure guts for these kids to play the way they did. Those that disrespect this, I just can't understand.

 

We are seeing more injuries this summer. Martin and Kendal. Both will see valuable time at the PG position this year. Just heard that Brewer has gone back to Powell Co. We will miss you Christian, I wish nothing but the best for you. A great young man.:thumb::thumb:

Surely we're not talking about two years ago when BB had to have every possible break go their way to only lose by six after getting stomped out 56-33 in the regular season.

 

If it's before that you very well may be right but I wasn't even in the area at that point.

It was the year that we beat Pendleton Co in the semi...they were favored to repeat. I believe that Miller was a Sophomore.

If they had been healthy, they still would not have had a point guard and imo that is why they got beat. Williams was a good guard, but when Mason turned up the heat in the 3rd and 4th quarter, Clark had no answer.

This is a new year. Injuries are apart of the game and a team needs to overcome them. I felt like GRC did that to the best of their ability and played their hearts against Mason. The better team on the floor won that day. This year should be fun for Top 2. If only I could be there to watch the Finals at The Fieldhouse again. I might have to take some vacation days and drive to Winchester and ride up there with you Gold!

It is relevant. We did beat Mason, in regular season. Remember the 3 free throws that Stenzel hit at the end of the game. So yes having Zollo and Hatton injured did make a huge difference. Or maybe it was just the home court advantage....
