I couldn't care less if there's never ever been one incident recorded of a 72 year old woman attacking an officer - and I would very much guess there has been - it certainly doesn't mean it's not possible or that she doesn't pose some threat to his safety. Doesn't mean she's as big a threat as a 25-year old punk hopped up on crack, but she's a concern nonetheless as evidenced by her disrepsectful, non-complaint behavior. I'm also not going to say that there wasn't a better way to handle this situation other than tasering her, but to call it "laughable" or utterly inexcusable is naive. Shame some people can't walk in the shoes of a police officer for a day or two . . . . .

 

Great post. I agree entirely. I bet there has been incidents where 72 year olds have injured police officers. If not, is he supposed to be the first? She nearly backed him right out in the traffic as she came toward him in her offensive manner.

I agree with you pigman, uncalled for. I mean its a speeding ticket, he never said to the woman "if you dont sign you are under arrest". It went from no I won't sign, to here let's tase you.

 

No, it didn't. You might want to watch that video again because if that is all you saw, you missed a lot. She refused to sign the ticket MULTIPLE times. Once out of her vehicle, where the next step was to arrest her, she nearly backed the cop out into traffic. Then she resisted arrest MULTIPLE times and tried to get away.

An 88 year old killed a security guard yesterday. Age cannot be an excuse not to do a job.

I'm telling you guys, she threatened them with her chihuahua.

They give you the tools to use. A taser is a distance instrument why risk hurting yourself or the offender any worse by using your hands don't be non compliant is my advice

Does anyone feel differently about this now, after the arrest of the Harvard professor?

I realize Im not the proper audience since I didn't post here before. I had no problem with the taser here or with the arrest you now refer to. They were both within reason for the officer and IMO, sensible response by each.

I have no problem with you posting. I agree. Both police officers responded in a reasonable manner. Both citizens could have easily avoided arrest and making the situation worse.
