But I had to close in saying that the implications of the bolded are profound IMO.

 

Rome never was "in the favor of God" when at it's height. It never recognized Yahweh God or Jesus until Constantine in the 4th century AD. Therefore they never could have "turned away from him" to lose that favor.

Not every great nation found the FAVOR of God. (i.e. Rome, Greece, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Carthage, Nazi Germany, USSR, et al) God however works within the unknowing to implement His Divine plan of purpose (i.e. Rome and the Pax Romana) but that does not mean God sanctions that nation or activity. (Israel in the ancient sense being the only exception I see to that rule)

Once again, I never said all the great nations through history had the favor of God, I said those great nations that did have the favor of God and turned from him didn't stay great for very long! Even when the entire world but a few turned from God he destroyed the world. The world is the devils playground and that is why it is so easy for evil to triumph on every level from Governments to individuals I struggle everyday with my worldly thoughts and actions. However, God has promised that he will never leave me and he will not put anything on me that I can not take. Once again I will say it is all in faith, faith can move mountains. May God Bless!
