Balt is finally going to bring him up Friday. I think he might be the best catcher in the game by the end of the year. I really think he is going to be one of the more special catchers to play the game. He is huge, great on defense and will end up around Mauer+Martinez as the best hitting catchers there are today IMO. Could be wrong but I have high hopes for him. Balt has some nice young talent. If you all need a fantasy catcher I would jump all over him right now.

 

Wieters is a fine prospect...but I wouldnt be calling him the best catcher in the league. I mean, the guy hasn't even faced a big league pitcher and you are saying he will be the best catcher in the game by seasons end. Come on now...Mccann, Maur, Martinez, Russel Martin, Soto...Theres no way.

I just said maybe not by the end of this year. Mauer is hitting 425 so I don't think he is on that level:lol: I do think he has all the tools to be one of if not the best over the next few years. He is talented enough to be right in the thick of it. I see you listed Soto on there. He's only been in the league 1 year and I think Weiters is a better prospect myself. I like McCann. Mauer is a hitting fool. Martinez is too but he has to play 1B some to stay healthy. Martin has good speed for a catcher. Weiters is a beast. He is a prospect on defense and offense.

 

Of the guys listed Mauer, McCann and Martinez were all on the DL within the past year. Soto has struggled and Martin isn't hitting like he was last year. Martinez is off to a hot start and Mauer is ridiculous right now. McCann is the leader out of that group IMO behind the plate + dugout.

Mauer can flat out hit! I think Wieters is a better all around prospect though. He's 6'5 and a load behind the plate. I don't know that he'll hit for Mauers ave but I think he will have more power.

No. Just that his current binge is reminiscent of what Bonds did during his insane season. He was hitting a HR every 9 or 10 AB's and batting about .370 best I remember.

 

Basically, you couldn't pitch to him. Anything in the strike zone had a decent shot of ending up in the crowd. Juiced or not, Bonds' season was fun to watch.

 

At this point, I'm not shocked to hear that anyone in baseball is juicing. But, I don't believe Mauer is...it would seem really stupid to do it now. Most of the new names end up being outed for past use, not current use. He's just 25...I suspect he's maturing and finding his power stroke...and I doubt he'll keep hitting a dinger every 8-9 AB's.

 

It's certainly impressive.

 

I was considering offering Pujols for Mauer in my fantasy baseball league. Catcher was the only position in my lineup that was killing me, and I'm stuck with a stud on the bench with my current setup. Making that deal would have given me a stacked lineup and allowed me to get all my good players in.

 

Consider I say, because I don't think I'd actually do it. But, Baltimore called Wieters up finally, so I'm content to put him in and see what happens...plus, I can see if Mauer is going to keep it up, or if this is just an aberration.

 

I've got Pujols and Berkman. And, Beltran and Adam Jones. The guy that set the league up set it up for LF, CF and RF instead of three OF's, so I have to sit Berkman, Beltran or Jones. No choice. It really irks me to see the difference in production between Berkman, Beltran and Jones and my current LF and RF.
