Theoldguy Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 CovCath 2 Ryle 1 Outstanding pitching effort by both Isler and Etscheid as both pitchers controlled the game. The difference in this game was the hitting of middle of the CovCath lineup, Siemer, Maile, Darner and Isler along with the infield "D" of Holocher and Siemer. Siemer's play to end the game on a sure base hit by Truit was a ESPN hightlite play for sure, and it was indeed a heads up play by Isler, to cover 1st base to end the game. Come later after dinner.
Theoldguy Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 CovCath 1st: Nutini is hbp on a 0-2 count and Siemer sac bunt him to second. CovCath 4th: Maile K (2) (this is only the 3rd K of the season for Maile), Darner gets a base hit, Isler hit a shot that 6 made a great catch on, and Holocher 9 on (10) pitches. Ryle 4th: O"Hara 8, Etscheid 4-3, and Meier K (5) on (12) pitches. CovCath 5th: Lafever K (3), Slagbaum 5-3 Martin gets a base hit, Nutini goes 4-6 on (10) pitches. Truit K (6), Carney goes 6-3 on a outstanding play by Holocher who scopps up the ball going up the middle then guns down the runner at first. It was a bang, bang play on (10) pitches. CovCath 6th: Siemer gets a base hit, Maile gets a base hit, Darner gets a base hit and the bases are loaded for Isler with no outs in the inning. Isler on a 2-0 pitch sends the ball deep into the gap between CF and RF for a double and 2 huge rbi's. With men on third and second and still with no outs, Holocher K (4), Lafever on a nice pitch by Etscheid fails to lay down the squeez and gets Darner out, then Lafever K (5) on 24 pitches. CovCath leads by a score of 2-0. Ryle 6th: Donovan K (7) Lankard gets a base hit and then O'Hara hit a rocket for a double to knock in the run but Isler get Etscheid to go 6-3 moving O'Hara to third and with a man on third and two outs, Holocher makes another nice 6-3 to end the inning on (16) pitches. changeup Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 In my opinion, Zach Isler is player of the year in NKY. 10-0 on the mound, pitching against top competition and clutch hitting driving in key runs (such as tonight) . Sure others are having great years including two of his teammates but where would they be without their ace?
Oscar Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 This was a great game! Fast as well! Both Etschied and Isler pitched a heck of a game, but Isler really dominates a game on the mound. 10-0 speaks for itself obviously. His RBI's were also huge as they were the only 2 scored runs of the game for CovCath. He has had a heck of a year. Neil Martin has been hitting the ball very well and Siemer/Isler's play to end the game was beautiful. All three of the boys from CovCath deserve to be in the running for POY..but Isler has def. been very valuable to his team in all facets. Darner's hits and RBI's are nice too..

Maybe a little smoother that Rob. He seems to look effortless out there.

Sure others are having great years including two of his teammates but where would they be without their ace? I totally agree...along with his pitching performance last night, which was outstanding, when he got the double to plate both of CovCath's runs I looked at all the fans around me and said "he just won the 9th Region POY". That was a great high school game, and I believe it was mentioned earlier in the thread how well CovCath's infield played, well Ryle's infield easily equaled them making play after play all game. David Etscheid this year against CovCath has only given up a total of 4 runs (2 earned) in 13 innings, no other pitcher in NKY can boast that record.

Etscheid has had the help of some fantastic defense. He keeps the ball down and makes his defense make plays. That's why he is successful.

Note: going to his right was a brain freeze on my part. I should have posted far to his left. :sssh: Sorry for any confusion that my freeze caused anyone. :notworthy: You are correct GG, and as I stated in my post; This game started at 5pm and was over by 6:40. hja1224 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 What's amazing is in the other Thread on Maile that TOG posted, the article from Lexington states Maile as being a favorite to win Mr. Baseball for the whole state of KY and yet, while deserving, how do you distinquish his great year and the year of Isler who has been outstanding as well. And of course, RD has had a great year. :idunno:

BTW did anybody but me notice that Coach Roesel and David Etscheid chose to pitch to Maile instead of giving him the IW, then to pitch to Darner with first base open in the seventh? Don't think this was a knock or lack of respect towards Luke but a huge show of respect toward Darner and the year he is having. Edited May 16, 2009 by Theoldguy

Don't think this was a knock or lack of respect towards Luke but a huge show of respect toward Darner and the year he is having. I think Tri player of the year is a great idea and all three are deserving. But the one who has meant the most to the team overall is easy to figure out. My vote would go to tri player of the year, but it's very unlikely that will ever happen lol. And I personally think it's a pick your poison with the middle of CovCath's lineup. What is the point in IW walking Maile to get to Darner or Isler. There are certain situations where it may be beneficial to IW one of them in a "this is it, if they knock this run in they win" but otherwise just pitch and hope for the best.

Sure others are having great years including two of his teammates but where would they be without their ace? Have to agree. What a great year!! Isler continues to take the mound against the toughest competition and remains a perfect 10-0 as well as a very productive year at the plate. I look forward to seeing Ice throwing more fire as the Colonels go into the playoffs.
