wideopen Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Coach Hicks is a good coach, but I would say he has been feeling some pressure of late. With the loaded roster he has had over the past 10 or 11 years at Scott Co. people believe you should win the region every year and be in the hunt for a state titile also. Lex. Cath winning the region the past two years does not make things any better in Scott Co. I am not saying people do not love and support Coach Hicks in Scott Co. but those fans believe they should win the region every year. I really believe the heat will be on for the players and coaches at Scott Co. next year. I would say they will be rated number 2 next season behind only Holmes. They will feature again a all-star type starting 5. Good luck to the Coach Hicks, staff, and Players next season.
Log Mountain Boy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 It sounds like the whole thing was blown out of proportion some based on the article in the LHL. Scott Co. will be great again next year, when he does leave Scott Co. to quit coaching or go else where I'm sure it'll be a tough decision based on the program he built.
Tiger0334 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) It sounds like the whole thing was blown out of proportion some based on the article in the LHL. Your right about that, the whole thing was taken to far. With our media today that's whats happens when a story like this is let out. It did make for a lot of excitement over the past day or so. Scott County will be favored to win the 11th for the next 3or 4 years. Does that mean they will? No. Hicks does an outstanding job with player development and letting the players play within his system. There is a reason why players want to play for Hicks, it's because he will prepare them for the next level. Edited May 7, 2009 by Ram Rule 10
westsider Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 How was it blown out of proportion? Even Hicks and the Scott County people admit that he went down there to look at the job.

There was a lot of rumors about Steve Wright coming to Scott Co. and trying to make a big story about it. Its like anyone else. If you have a good job and are offered another one a lot of people look into it. That appears to be what Coach Hicks did and I imagine its not something someone wants media attention for.
Les Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 When you're in the spotlight the media attention comes with the territory. If the person doesn't like it, then get out of it.

Why not he may have gotten a little raise from the last couple of days. Personally I didn't think he would leave, but you never know.

I am sure the other parts of the job makes it worth it. But I feel sorry for people who have to deal with media and speculation all the time. Particularly like a high school coach. Hes a school employee who is a teacher and likes to coach basketball and has to deal with it.

I wouldn't feel sorry for Coach Hicks, he's came along way from Evarts in Harlan Co.
big impact Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I wouldn't feel sorry for Coach Hicks, he's came along way from Evarts in Harlan Co. I can see Hicks ending his career at Harlan Co. if he chooses to come back to the mountains.

westsider Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 There was a lot of rumors about Steve Wright coming to Scott Co. and trying to make a big story about it.There was much less talk about that, which was simply speculation, than there was about the Hicks-Knott situation, which turned out to be factual.
Log Mountain Boy Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 There was much less talk about that, which was simply speculation, than there was about the Hicks-Knott situation, which turned out to be factual. But there was talk about it. Which I think its kind of silly, people saying well my sources tell me that Hicks is going to Knott and Wright is going to Scott and rumors like that.
