May 3, 200917 yr Not at all. I'm saying there have been plenty Teams win a World Series without a gold glove 2nd baseman. When BP's name is brought up about possible trades, some seem to think he's untouchable because of his gold glove. Yep, while the Red Sox did have Gold Glover Pedroia there in 2007 and the Phillies had Chase Utley, who is very good as well, there last season it isn't necessary. The 3 World Series winners before that had Aaron Miles, Tadahito Iguchi and Mark Bellhorn as their primary second basemen. Since Phillips isn't very good in the 4 spot and seems to have a very poor attitude I don't think it would hurt the Reds at all to include him in a trade that might bring a real middle of the order righthanded bat. That and a couple of good moves in the offseason to shore up the offense and they could contend in 2010.
May 3, 200917 yr I believe Melvin Mora is going to be a FA after this season. He's 37 & is on the DL at least once or twice a year, but that dude can hit. I'd imagine he'll be on the market once the O's call it a year in late June / July.
May 3, 200917 yr ^ Sounds like something we need. You are trying to down play how good Holliday is then throw out Melvin Mora. He has an option for next year by the way.

Actually, I stand corrected. Mora has played in a lot more games the past few seasons than I had anticipated. Last year he played 135. 2007 - 126 games, .274 AVG, 14 HR 2006 - 155 games, .274, 16 HR, 83 RBI 2005 - 149 games, .283, 27 HR, 88 RBI 2004 - 140 games, .340 AVG, 27 HR, 104 RBI I'd take it. And at 37, Mora's price would probably be more reasonable than some of the other options.
May 3, 200917 yr Who are you guys going to get to play 2B if they trade BP? If Hairston is going to continue to play everyday, he could play at 2nd. I'd imagine Rosales can play 2nd. How about Valarkia, in the minors? Wilkin Castillo? They're not ready yet, i'm just throwing out some options. We could get another 2B in the trade? Honestly, I don't know. But I'm not nearly as worried about the defense at second base as I am worried about having somebody in the lineup that can produce.
May 3, 200917 yr ^ That would be a pre Bananna Bob move. Seems like they are headed in another direction and it's one I like. I don't think adding a guy like that with a steady decline in his numbers is the answer.

I don't think adding a guy like that with a steady decline in his numbers is the answer. I agree. I was just searching for players who would probably be available later this year that could fill a need. Holliday & Mora are the 1st two that come to mind for me. Mora most likely doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank, so I think we may be able to get him at a decent price. The A's will most likely deal Holliday at some point, if they're not in contention. Honestly, I'm not sure how willing I am to give up a lot of prospects (read: Homer Bailey) for a guy that's going to be here for 3-4 months, unless he's a stud. I've heard Wily Mo Pena is available.
May 3, 200917 yr The stats show he is best suited to hit in the 4th spot. It's his most productive spot in the order. Now granted most that time he had the benefit of Adam Dunn and Junior. I think putting him ahead of Votto might do wonder for him.
May 3, 200917 yr Here are OF's that will be next year. * means the have an option... May 3, 200917 yr Jason Bay is the first one that sticks out in my mind but I would imagine Boston will try to resign him.

I too would love to see him hitting before Votto.

May 3, 200917 yr Jason Bay is the first one that sticks out in my mind but I would imagine Boston will try to resign him. Bay would be solid too, but I think he stays in Boston. I don't think there's any way the Dodgers deal Manny. Vladdy is over the hill. I would have loved to see him in Cincy about 5-6 years ago. The only other names on that list are Matt Holliday (who we've discussed) and Jermaine Dye (who I think is the most realistic possibility.)
May 3, 200917 yr I saw Derosa's name on the list that I found, too. Didn't he just sign a deal with the Indians, though? I'd be shocked if that was only for 1 year. I like Derosa's game a lot. Probably because he hits like .700 against Cincy. :irked:
