South Laurel's Ricky Bowling decides not to play college football

Featured Replies

Interesting, considering he would play Baseball in college if offered. Football takes a lot of time and dedication.

That surprised me a little bit as well. He is a very good baseball player, but always thought he would make someone a very good small college QB. Looks like the offers were there, but if hs is at a point that he doesn't enjoy it anymore, I admire his decision.

Had offers from at least 7 schools, but commented in the article that he was just burned out on football. Ricky is a smart kid who is probably going to major in pre-med. Good luck to him in the future. This decision honestly surprised me a little bit.

I wouldn't mess with playing either if I was him, Pre-Med? Wow. Impressive.

If he can operate, diagnose, etc in his years to come like he did throwing a football, then he'll be just fine.

I've got to know Ricky pretty well the last few years.. Just an awesome kid.. Good luck Ricky...:thumb:

I agree. He is doing what is best for him and his future. I know Robert Hatton of GRC is thinking of doing the same, not playing college basketball and just concentrating on his studies. He will be majoring in engineering.

If he is going pre-med, then it is probably a wise choice.

It reminds me of when Harold "Nooners" Reedy from Corbin was at EKU several years ago playing football and taking pre-med classes. At the start of his sophomore year, he had a scheduling conflict with a class he needed to take and football practice, one of his coaches told him he was on a football scholarship and could take the class some other time. He told the coach he was there to get an education and to get into medical school, so he gave up his football career to concentrate on his real career choice. It turned out well in his case as he is now a radiologist. Hope it turns out as well for Bowling.

Glad to see he puts his Education first in life, he is very good young man who will be very successful in life!!!:thumb:

Great kid and it sounds like he has his head on straight. Life is about choices and I'm sure this was a tough one for him, but one that in the long run will probably pay off big time.

Sure hope it does, and I think he will succeed in anything he chooses to do!
