April 13, 200917 yr The Cardinals travel to Arizona today to face the D-Backs. Wellenmeyer (0-1) will face Davis (0-1).
April 13, 200917 yr I am very interested in how Wellenmeyer comes off the bad start last week. Hopefully he can return to his 08 form. Also big series with the Cubs over the weekend.
April 13, 200917 yr Author I agree. Pitching will be the key for the Cardinals this year. Especially the bullpen.
April 14, 200917 yr Author Cards win 2-1 on homers by Albert Pujols and Brian Barden. Ryan Franklin becomes the third Cardinal reliever to get a save. Wellemeyer pitched 7 strong innings to get the win. Carpenter takes the mound today for the Cards against Scherzer.
April 14, 200917 yr Barden hits the go-ahead HR in the 8th against a team that gave up on him. Also his 1st HR in the bigs.
April 14, 200917 yr It'll be interesting to see how Scherzer fares today. He's a big time prospect who has been battling some injuries lately.
April 15, 200917 yr Author The Cards lose 7-6 in 10 innings to the D-Backs. Even worse Carpenter left the game with a possible strain muscle in his left side. The injury will be reevaluated today.
April 15, 200917 yr The Cards lose 7-6 in 10 innings to the D-Backs. Even worse Carpenter left the game with a possible strain muscle in his left side. The injury will be reevaluated today. How long typically will an injury like that keep you out?
April 15, 200917 yr How long typically will an injury like that keep you out? I guess it depends on how bad it is. I wouldn't think too long. He might have to miss a couple of starts. At least it's not his arm or elbow.
April 15, 200917 yr Author It was reported that he first hurt it while batting and he felt discomfort while warming up for the 4th inning.
April 15, 200917 yr It's a shame to see him out again. La Russa said after the game he was apologetic.
April 16, 200917 yr Author The Cards won today 12-7. PHOENIX (AP) -- Ryan Ludwick homered and drove in three runs and the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon. April 16, 200917 yr Author The news is not good about Carpenter. He's expected to be out 4-8 weeks. PHOENIX — St. Louis Cardinals starter Chris Carpenterdid not feel comfortable enough this morning to bend over at his waist to pick up something off the floor and the severe discomfort his his side was still prominent a day after he had to leave his start. The Cardinals are calling the injury a rib-cage strain on his left side, though Carpenter has described it as an oblique strain. The righthander will meet with team physicians on Thursday for a detailed diagnosis. He will have an MRI performed on the area in question. Read More
April 16, 200917 yr 3rd game this year the Cards have scored at least 10 runs. I really like this offense so far, but don't understand why Ludwick isn't starting everyday even against righties. Its tough to lose Carp especially during a period when the Cards will be playing the Cubs(twice), Mets, Phillies and Braves. Hopefully it's 4 weeks and he comes back strong again.
