April 3, 200917 yr Isn't it funny how the Broncos have searched for a legit #1 QB since Elway left...they got him and in a short span they lost one heck of a coach + their franchise QB! The Bears have looked forever for a franchise QB.... my Bears friends are on cloud nine right now. It's fun to watch!
April 3, 200917 yr I am a huge Bears fan and this is exactly what they needed. Yes, they did give up a lot of draft picks but they will still have a pick in the 3rd this year because they had two. In exchange they get a All-Pro QB which they havent had since '85. IMO this makes the Bears the team to beat in the NFC North. Both teams made out well with this trade.

April 3, 200917 yr Now all they need is some WR's. To whom exactly do they think Cutler will be throwing? Marshall and Royal were some pretty nice targets in Denver. Chicago has nothing close to this on their roster.
April 3, 200917 yr This story has been a disaster from the beginning. The stories from the two sides didn't match up and I think Cutler really looks bad in the end. We will see how he handles Chicago, I think he is very talented but I'll go on record as saying this will not have a story book ending.
April 3, 200917 yr I think Denver got the better end of this deal IMO. :thumb: I agree. I think the Bears made a huge mistake. In the five games prior to Orton's ankle injury last season, he was averaging 274 yards per game at a 62.7 percent clip with 10 TD's and 4 picks. Orton was good enough to get the job done in Chicago if they had the pieces in place around him. Cutler definitely has more raw physical talent, but that doesn't always equal a better QB. Now he's the starting QB for a smash mouth football team with limited receiving options and no first round picks for the next two years to fill holes. Aside from that, is Cutler a good fit in Chicago's offense? He's a gunslinger and the Bears like to win with defense and a strong ground game. Last year, the Bears WR's caught 126 passes for 1685 yards and 9 TD's. The TE's and RB's caught 178 for 1544 and 11 TD's. I don't think this trade works out the way Bears fans are hoping. After you get over the initial splash of getting "Jay Cutler", is he really worth Kyle Orton and two first round picks?
April 3, 200917 yr Last year, the Bears WR's caught 126 passes for 1685 yards and 9 TD's. The TE's and RB's caught 178 for 1544 and 11 TD's. Contrast that with the Broncose last year... WR's = 271 Rec, 3098 Yds, 16 TD TE's = 72 Rec, 1034 Yds, 7 TD RB's = 43 Rec, 413 Yds, 2 TD Chicago WR's accounted for 41.4% of the teams catches, 52.2% of the yards, and 45% of the TD's in their passing offense. Denver's breakdown looks like this...70.2% of receptions, 68.2% of the yards and 64% of the TD's. Cutler is known as an aggressive QB with a big arm who sometimes tries to force big plays. Will he be content to check down to Forte who caught 20 more balls than Denver's entire RB corps last season? I may be wrong, but I don't see this working out for the Bears. Whether it works in Denver will depend on how Orton fares and what they do in the next couple of drafts... Bottom line: I like this move from Denver's perspective, but not Chicago's.
April 3, 200917 yr Now all they need is some WR's. To whom exactly do they think Cutler will be throwing? Marshall and Royal were some pretty nice targets in Denver. Chicago has nothing close to this on their roster. That was my first thought, since I have Cutler on FF team. ESPN knocked him out of the top ten QB for next years FF.
April 3, 200917 yr Denvers coach won't last 3 years there! What a goof! I'm happy for Bears fans... they haven't had a QB in forever! I don't think he will make it to the third year
April 4, 200917 yr Denver has set themselves up quite well to re-build into a strong contender within the next 2-3 years. Orton is a much better QB than he gets credit for, IMO. He's efficient. He manages games well. He's tough. And, perhaps most importantly, he's a leader. I think people are dismissing his value in the trade. The Broncos got a better player than a lot of people think. They have a few solid pieces in place to work with and now they have 4 first round picks in the next two years. If they draft well, this team could be very good in a few short years. This year, Denver will have the following picks: 12, 18, 48, 79, 84, 114, 140, 185, 225, 235 Next year they'll have 2 first rounders, and one pick in each remaining round. I like what the Broncos did with this move.
April 4, 200917 yr Now all they need is some WR's. To whom exactly do they think Cutler will be throwing? Marshall and Royal were some pretty nice targets in Denver. Chicago has nothing close to this on their roster. This is the interesting part to me. I think Orton plays better than most think but he wasn't even their 1st choice. They had a deal on the table for Quinn and it fell through. Those WR's are going to make a lot of QB's look good! The thing for Denver is they should now load up on defense where they were awful. They have potential to build a heck of a nucleus on that side of the ball. The downfall IMO is they have looked for a QB since Elway left and finally found one. Now they have to do it again. I think Orton can play but don't think he is the answer. For the Bears they got the best QB they have had maybe ever. Definatly since Jimmy Mac. What kind of went under the radar is they also signed Pace which could be a huge get. Forte is an absolute stud so he has a running game already. Olsen is a nice young TE. The move I think they need to make is get Torry Holt. If they get him then they have a legit #1 which means they can move D. Hester to #2 which is what he really is. They also have Earl Bennett who is a Vandy grad. With a deal this big really you usually have to wait 3-5 years down the road to determine who got the best of the deal. I know this much the Broncos better get off to a pretty decent start or there will be enough heat to melt the snow caps in the Rockies! McDaniels has come in and started a fire with his best player (other than maybe Bailey or Marshall) and run him out of town all while his defense was the real problem. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows the kind of guy he wanted at QB and has put his neck on the line. His reputation is that he is an outstanding QB coach so I guess he knows best until proven otherwise.
April 6, 200917 yr If I'm not mistaken,Denver's line allowed the fewest sacks last year. Cutler will get hit more behind Chicago's line. Orton may be all right behind Denver's line.
