March 31, 200917 yr If I had won 10 NCAA titles I doubt winning was easy would come out of my mouth. Joe B won about 10 national titles for recruiting the best classes. There was a reason he didn't want to play Denny Crum and Louisville. Joe B is a lot like Jimmy Carter the older he gets and the farther away he gets from his past the better he became. In response to the 2nd one, I don't recall that. He had one of the top recruiting classes in: 1974 Their record speaks for itself. (Robey, Phillips, Givens, Lee, Hall) 1979 They did win 3 SEC titles and while they did not make a Final Four Bowie was hurt 2 of those years. (Bowie, Minnifield, Hurt, Hord) 1980 A Final 8 and a Final Four for that group plus 3 SEC titles. (Beal, Turpin, Master, Heitz) He never had great class again that I would have labeled Top 5 in the nation. Any coach can be outguessed but Joe Hall did a fine job winning games he shouldn't have (IU in '75, SEC run in '79 tourney, NCAA run in '85) and I'm sure lost some most felt he should win ('81 and '82 come to mind).
March 31, 200917 yr Beat IU and Scott May had a broken hand. I rooted for Kentucky the whole time. My parents took a buddy and me to St. Louis in 78 when they won the championship. I think Joe B was a great recruiter and a so-so game coach. He did have Leonard Hamilton & Dickie Parsons on his staff.

IU would have won it all, with or without May if the Cats had not played the game of their lives and believed they could win. To this day Knight calls it his most bitter defeat and believes he made the mistake by starting Laskowski instead of Abernathy for May. May played but it showed desperation and Hall played it up. Hall also did just as great a job coaching through NCAA in '78 with Florida State and Michigan State adjustments. (I have in my prize possession a button that reads "MSU is Magic" that my Godfather won on a bet with a Sparty fan.) We'll just have to agree to disagree. :isurrender:
