And Ga Tech or any school should be thrilled when you overachieved to win 30 games and a conference title. I'll take a title we overachieved, and quite frankly, got lucky to win since FSU beat UNC. I told people all year long that Duke wasn't a top 10 team and I love my Dukies......but I am realistic also. We added another ACC championship trophy to the collection, so yeah, I am thrilled. I am overjoyed, elated, and all the other adjectives that mean ecstatic.

 

Plus Carolina didn't win it.....

 

I think that gives us a grand total of 17 conference tourney titles to go along with the fact that we are the winningest team of this decade in all of college basketball. Sweet.....

Most people label what you are doing "hate". Why all of the negative diatribe about Duke then? Nobody anywhere is talking about Coach K on the "hot seat" or should he be on the hot seat because he hasn't won it all since 2001. Those are unrealistic expectations. But don't worry, he is the winningest coach of this decade and I am sure that he will win another title before he walks away. He'll give you a reason to hate before too long.

Come on. Duke basketball is not Georgia Tech. They don't settle for ACC tourney championship trophies. They play for the Final 4.

I am sure Coach K would rather be playing today than sitting home polishing his 3 national championship trophies and his 11 ACC tourney championship trophies, but with that brings the knowledge to add more of both to the collection so to answer your question, again, no Coach K is not nor should he be on the hot set. On the court, Coach K has averaged more than 25 wins a season during his career at Duke. The Blue Devils have won at least 30 games in eight of the past 18 seasons. He directed his teams to nine straight trips to the round of 16 from 1998-2006, as well as joining John Wooden as the only coach to guide a team to the Final Four five consecutive years.

 

In all, Krzyzewski has directed his teams to 10 Final Fours, third-most by any coach in NCAA history. His 69 NCAA victories stand as the all-time record, three better than the total of 65 amassed by Dean Smith.

 

And this is old news, they also forgot to say that he has won 27 games 17 times in his coaching career and that he is the winningest coach of this decade.

First off, name the 12-15 that have failed because I am sure that there are 12-15 that have failed at every major school in the NCAA. Don't forget that Duke is the winningest school of this decade and they have a championship this decade.

 

Secondly, name schools, not just one but schools that can say they had 5 quality big men in the last 20 years and then put those 5 quality big men against Christian Laettner, Cherokee Parks, Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand and Shelden Williams. I am sure you will see big men come and go, but you aren't going to find many who can say they had that many quality college big men over the same time period. And name those 5 guys and schools quickly, because those 5 names roll of the tongue fast and furious and I'm sure you won't find more than 5 schools, if any who can brag of having that kind of quality big man at 5 different times throughout the same time period.

Good job. Now name 5 schools that had 5 quality big men over the same time period as Laettner, Parks, Brand, Boozer, and Williams AND brought home 3 national championships over the same time period. Good luck with that.

 

And take McRoberts off the list, he was a good big man, he just left too early to leave his mark. He doesn't deserve to be listed with the rest of those guys. Horvath was not a big man in the same line of big man as Laettner, Parks, Brand, Boozer and Williams. The rest of those guys were recruits that never lived up to their potential. There is also still hope for Plumlee, he's just a freshman this year.

 

I am sure you will see that every school has hit or miss recruits. Duke is not immune to that.

What is the issue then? That since 1990 it has taken UK 3 coaches to win 2 national titles and it has only taken Duke 1 coach to win 3 since then? What is the issue, you lost me.

I saw the Plumlee kid at the Laurel County Hoopfest, he is very long and athletic he had a ton of dunks, but was also able to shoot from 15-17 feet, and put it on the floor a little bit if needed, he will make a nice addition to this team next season.

The answer to your question is the history of Duke basketball under Coach K. It's that simple, IMO. He has ups and downs, but he always finds a way to bounce back. I have no reason to believe other wise and if he never wins another title, so be it, I am extremely grateful to be a fan of Duke University and Coach K and I will always blindly believe that next year will be a better year regardless of how the present year turned out. He has proven to be one of the greatest coaches ever in the history of college basketball and as long as he patrols the sidelines, then I know if we didn't win, that there is a good reason for it and it will get fixed at some point. I've made it clear that I'm not suggesting he may be fired. I think I posted he will leave when HE decides.

 

My seemingly obvious point is that Duke has failed to live up to its past and its current reputation as "elite." You can cite all of the stats you want but ultimately elite teams are measured in F4s and National Championships. Duke can't even sniff that much anymore. Can you still call yourself "elite" if you fare no better in the ultimate measurement than solid SEC or Big 10 schools?

Sorry Clyde, we obviously have different tools of measuring success. Have we won a championship since 2001, no we haven't. We made 1 final four since then, a couple of sweet 16's, and added a few acc tourney titles. It's not like we haven't made the tourney or finished in last or the middle of the pack in the acc, and we still have the best overall track record in college basketball since 1990, so the answer to your question is yes, I still consider us elite and one of the top 5 programs in all of college basketball.
