That doesn't concern me....it only really strikes home with those that hate Duke. Duke has had droughts under Coach Krzyzewski in the past, but they are doing things the right way. They are the winningest team this decade, there is no real arguing with that.

 

Please don't resort to they "you hate Duke" line.

Duke is always a top 20 team but can't seem to get over the hump enough to warrant that rating and their reputation.

Sure they do....but now that their done, an ACC title, and 30 wins is not a bad season, disappointing, sure, but a great season nonetheless.

Just wish Coach K would do a couple of things, start developing the big men that they recruit, (I would hire Mike Gminski, if he would take the job) as some sort of assitant coach. The list of big men that have came into Duke and underacheived or not acheived at all is staggering and needs to be addessed either with the hire of a Gminski or someone to help do this because K and the present coaching staff are not getting the job done and start playing zone from time to time, this bit Gillespie in the behind and does the same to K. I like man to man, but think using it constantly if you don't know your team well enough wears them down at the end and may have helped cost Duke longer runs in the tournament over the years.

Before I send out my posts responding to all of this hate for Duke, admit it, you hate Duke, that's why you are on here talking "hot seat for Coach K" when he is the winningest coach of this decade, I just want to say I have been waiting for it to get to this point. First off, name the 12-15 that have failed because I am sure that there are 12-15 that have failed at every major school in the NCAA. Don't forget that Duke is the winningest school of this decade and they have a championship this decade.

 

Secondly, name schools, not just one but schools that can say they had 5 quality big men in the last 20 years and then put those 5 quality big men against Christian Laettner, Cherokee Parks, Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand and Shelden Williams. I am sure you will see big men come and go, but you aren't going to find many who can say they had that many quality college big men over the same time period. And name those 5 guys and schools quickly, because those 5 names roll of the tongue fast and furious and I'm sure you won't find more than 5 schools, if any who can brag of having that kind of quality big man at 5 different times throughout the same time period.

Folks, I realize no one is calling for Coach K's head and that he'll be there until he decides he won't be there.

 

However, we're talking Duke. They haven't been "Duke" for quite a while. They're living off past glory.

 

 

Most Duke fans I talk understand that we are as good as we have been in the past, but we've been through this before and we bounced back.

 

We haven't been "Duke" for 2-3 years now, but we are more guilty of underachieving the past 2 years than anything else.

 

Since people say we live off of past glory though, I'll help you out.......

 

Winningest team of this decade, 1 national championship this decade.

 

Voted best college basketball program since 1990 according to espn.com mainly due to the fact that Duke has more national championships than any school since that time period(3) and despite recent early exits in the tourney, Duke still remains an "Elite" program of college basketball and easily one of the top 5 programs in college basketball.

 

Feel free to check overall wins in pretty much any category and you will find Duke is in the top 5 of all of them.

 

I understand Duke to most people should be destroying your dreams and doing vitamin water commercials,but Dukies are human too, they have down years, we just don't panic and run a quality, smart, game technician called a coach or ambassador or governor out of town because we don't win the national championship, and then replace him with a non qualified person.

What is the issue then? That since 1990 it has taken UK 3 coaches to win 2 national titles and it has only taken Duke 1 coach to win 3 since then? What is the issue, you lost me.

I agree. Now that players have to go to college for a year, it has made it that much tougher on Duke. Most 1 and done players don't want to go to Duke, because it is too tough academically. Why would you want to do that? So they are stuck with 3 and 4 year players, most of which at the moment are good, but aren't athletic or strong enough to win titles.

 

And no, Coach K has absolutely zero pressure on him. The fact that he has put and kept a tiny, private school on the basketball map, especially one within shouting range of UNC enough to keep his job security high there until he decides to call it quits. Duke isn't really that good of a job to begin with. Coach K has done wonders there. And after Coach K leaves, I don't think anyone will think it is a good job at all.

 

 

 

Believe that if you want. Johnny Dawkins is at Stanford right now preparing for that job that no one thinks is any good. It's called keeping it in the family, something UNC practices also.

I thought Coach K did an amazing job with what he had this year really. Duke doesn't have the guards or the big men to be a top tier team, and won't next year unless say Nolan Smith and someone like Lance Thomas get a whole lot better and give them a lot more production.

 

The guard aren't bad, they need maturity and experience. I like Nolan Smith's athleticism and ability to run the team. I don't like his decision making and the many stupid, unnecessary fouls that plague him every game. I like what I saw from Eliott Williams defensively and athletically as well. If he can put the ball in the bucket at some point he could be another Gerald Henderson.

 

Lance Thomas and Brian Zoubek, where do I start....they have potential to be solid solid big men. Neither will catch you off guard with their athleticism, but I have seen good things from both which is a start. Neither are big men you can rely on from an offensive standpoint, but they create problems on defense when they aren't fouling. Both will be seniors next year and if the Plumlee brothers and the Ryan Kelly kid don't wow the coaching staff, then Lance and Brian will be starting for sure. If they can combine to give 20-25 points a game and 20-25 rebounds a game, I think we become a different threat. They have the size to provide this output, the question is, will they do it?
