March 27, 200917 yr I sleep horribly and snore. I went to a sleep study at Christ Hospital in Cincy about 5 yrs ago and it figures the night I spent there was probably the only night I didnt snore and slept well. I woke up and the guy told me I wasnt a severe case. i was begging him to give me something. To this day I still wake up 2/3 times a night and gasp for air in my sleep according to my wife. I need a 2nd opinion I think. I know I have a deviated septum, that was diagnosed as a child.
March 27, 200917 yr So does insurance pay for the thing most of the time? Do you have to sleep with it forever or do you get adjusted? I don't want to have nose surgery again it was rough but know I need too. I'm just afraid I'll do it again and it not work again! I need to drop about 20 lbs to be in great shape. That would help too I think. Insurance paid for sleep studies and surgeries. Would have paid for CPAP, but I went the surgery route.
March 27, 200917 yr I had two sleep studies, and the first night was a nightmare. I just couldn't get comfortable with all the wires. I actually stopped using my CPap but am in the process of ordering a new mask and a power cord since I lost mine. For those who use one, what type of mask do you use? I've heard that the nasal pillow is good from some and not good from others, any suggestions? Ask for the ResMed Active mask, it costs a little more but it it extremely comfortable and allows you to sleep in any position you want. It takes no getting used to and when you get it adjusted correctly feels like you don't have a mask at all. I have sleep apnea and I am not overweight at all, just a very small opening in the throat and never had my tonsils removed.
April 7, 200917 yr Author Got my results the other day. They want me to come back in and get fitted for the machine, and do another study with the machine on. :ohbrother:
April 8, 200917 yr Got my results the other day. They want me to come back in and get fitted for the machine, and do another study with the machine on. :ohbrother:I'm sorry you have to start using the machine, but I'm super-happy that you got tested and that you'll get proper treatment to make your life better...and longer. :thumb:
April 8, 200917 yr I hate to hear that you have to go to another study, but at least your sleep should improve with the CPap. I've started using mine again, and last night was the first night I made it through eight hours attached to the mask. I did feel a bit more refreshed today so that's encouraging.
April 8, 200917 yr Author Crazy, me too, and if you snore you need to be checked out. I sleep fine. Thanks for the imput and on the res mask, I'll ask about it.
May 8, 200917 yr Author Got my cpap machine and been using it for a week. It takes me a while to get to sleep but I do sleep better once I'm there. I had the face mask but it broke out my skin, went to the nasal mask and like it better but have woke up with a small amount of water coming from my machine. Might interchange them. Man dies....drowns in bed. :jump:
May 8, 200917 yr Great to hear Larry! The water is just condensation from your own breath being exhaled. When I was on a vent in the hospital, the tubes used to get so full, they'd slosh around with every breath. A nurse had to drain them periodically. If they weren't careful it drained the wrong way, and I got an instant lung full.
