2009 Kentucky State Weight Meet - Raceland 1A State Champions

Featured Replies

It was nice to see St. X actually participate this year. Unfortunately they didn't fair to well and their team left before the awards were given out. They didn't have a single kid place in the top 6 in any weight class.

What did Trinity do? We already know Trigg Co will not attend the Nationals.

Trigg County won the overall title for the third straight year. Timmy McGee deadlifted 700 pounds, the first lifter to ever do this at the state meet

Scribe, did you attend. I understand the young man from Trigg County was "handed" the lifts at 630 and 665(Fern Creek coach protested telling official the weight had never been changed" from the previous lift!) Also, he never had control and dropped the weights intead of setting them down on the floor. Sounds like some fishy goings-on at this powerlifting meet. A little bias against the little private school from St. Matthews. What a shock.

I told this parent who was explaining what he saw that the powerlifting meet is not sanctioned by the KHSAA and therefore amounts to no more than a glorified doughnut eating contest. Deadlift, lift to the waist, under control and return weights back to floor under control, right? Of course, no footage, no media attention whatsoever. Maybe this topic should go under "other" with the WWE.

We, too, had atleast 2 lifts that were DQ'd for no apparent reason. There are 3 lights and you have to have 2 green lights for it to be a clean lift. I am not sure how the judges are trained, but it seemed to be fair and consistent throughout the competition. Questionable, yes, but fair.

Trinty must sure like doughnuts, since they brought around 100 kids to this meet.

Seems a little self serving to take away a great accomplishment for young men that worked so hard to accomplish something. You weren't there, but still have such a sharp opinion on what was done.:idunno:

As for the ".......glorified doughnut eating........." comment, I would bet you would sing a different tune if your school had won. Sour grapes are so ugly.

I wasn't there but have been to meets in the past. As far as I know, the people they have judging are qualified people who have been to meets before and they have a clear-cut definition of what constitutes a successful lift.

I don't have a horse in the race but have heard from more than one person that three straight second place finishes after five straight state titles isn't sitting well with the folks from St. Matthews.

Congratulations to Trigg County.

Dead lift and bench press. Power clean was ommited due to size of the field and time. If I am mistaken on the reason for taking out the power clean, someone please correct me.

No Squat?

Squat is insane to judge. That is why the do deadlift.

First of all congratulations to all of the participants, including, but not limited to the winners!! Raceland-- awesome job!!

On Trinity's website today, it was announced that the Rocks had won the 6-A State Powerlifting Championship at Central Hardin on Saturday. It also said that it was Trinity's eighth straight championship. Individual state champions included: Bobby Conley; Matt Williams;Timmy Phillips, whom it called the best pound-for-pound lifter when he broke his own state record in the flat bench of 355 lbs.; Brendan Kinsella; and Eric Frey, who was the lifter who had the best flat bench lift of 425 lbs.!! (previously mentioned in this thread).

Also, Jordan Whiting set a new record in the 250 class with a flat bench lift of 390 lbs.

Doesn't sound like a donut eating contest to me!! Again, Congrats to all and GO ROCKS!!:thumb:

Thanks for the added information THSGrad-N-Dad. :thumb:
