I read all the posts. I just believe that from your posts it seems that you want a particular outcome. I guess I'm reading between the lines. Since Bill parsed his words, I tend to look for more than what is said.

 

It is quite obvious you did not read them all or did not comprehend them all. I have not demanded equality of result on this board, let alone this thread.

I disagree...perhaps you missed my post earlier, so I will restate it here:

 

How does one become a swimmer of any ability--let alone a champion swimmer--if s/he can't afford access to a pool?

 

Opportunity in this case is clearly not equal, as a person without the financial means to access a swimming pool can never become a swimmer. Can you refute this point?

 

This is, of course, an over simplified scenario that represents countless other situations where, in my opinion, equal opportunities do not exist.

 

Look at many of the athletes that have represented us over the years and you will see many who overcame great obstacles, including racsim, to achieve their dreams. Equal opportunity allows you a way of finding ways around personal situations. Granted sometimes money can be a factor, but how did that stop many gifted athletes that we have seen over the years?

I just believe some people want excuses.

I don't believe anyone is doubting the bolded at all. My class motto is "life is about choices, not excuses." However, that does not mean that everyone has the same opportunities.
