I started a similar thread in the girls' hoops forum on this when noticing a number of 11th Region teams with nice regular seasons that are sitting at home because of the blind draw in their district.

 

Who are some boys teams staying at home this postseason, feeling like a pretty girl without a prom date? Whether that be the cruel irony of a small school voting for the draw and getting unlucky in an "up" year and being matched up with the traditional power; or being a "victim" of the draw, as it were, ending up in the play-in game?

The 11th region in my opinion had the worst district blind draw with Dunbar, Tates Creek, and Lexington Catholic all battling for one regional spot while the two worst teams Lafayette and LCA played for the other spot.

Surely there are a few more examples????

All 8th Region districts are now seeded...we don't see this happen much anymore...

I think 16 +/- districts draw instead of seed for boys. I don't remember too many really standing out. Most of the draws looked to play out like seeding would have.

 

One might have been the 8th, where Christian and Hopkinsville met in the first round, along with University Heights and Fort Campbell. Christian and Hopkinsville were definitely the two best teams.

The 36th district is unseeded. Depending on the draw you could have Highlands or NewCath sitting at home when the regions come around due to playing each in the first round.

I may be wrong, but I think the 56th district is the only one in the 14th region that seeds.

Hazard and Perry Central are usually the top 2 teams in the 54th, and more years than not they draw each other in the first round. However it didn't happen this year and they're both in the regional tournament.

No idea. Maybe June Buchanan, since they've had some really nice teams over the past few years? I feel like it will move back to a blind draw when/if JBS closes.

I wasn't aware that the 53rd seeded. Did they just start this year?

 

We've been seeding in the 56th since the early 1980's. It's worked out well because it makes our season district games mean something, almost a tournament atmosphere when the district is fairly balanced.

 

And Owsley County has the smallest enrollment of the 4 schools (Powell 750, Estill 720, Lee 350, Owsley 240), but the Owls have won 9 district championships since seeding began.

Hey when the Lexington schools will not play Lex. Cath. you have to do a blind draw? So I think they should step up and play Lex Cath. during the year if they are a district game.:clap::thumb:
