FullMetalJacket Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 South by 12 but it would not surprise me if Whitley pulled a upset in this one...
My Two Cents Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Too many people calling for the upset, so I don’t see it happening. If St. Johns were to get into foul trouble Whitley could have a chance, but since the big man rarely gets into foul trouble I don’t see it happening.
Bubba Wilson Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Should be a good game early. Look for South to live to fight another day. It would not surprise me to see a rowdy crowd from the Colonels, this may propel them to the upset. South seems to know too much and their run will continue as they win 67-50. Late free throws will be the pad for the final margin.
Les Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I agree with you Bubba. You know how those district games are and the good news for Whitley is that they have a girls game first, so you know the Whitley crowd from that game will carry over, thus giving the Colonels a HUGE fan base.
The Breeze Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Whitley could pull an upset (not likely) South by 10.
Mr.Fundamental Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 5A against a 5A... Whitley has struggled against schools its own size, 1-2, both loses against South, but I think that the upset is likely!

It would make Mountjoy Gym roar if the Colonels can pull the upset of the three time defending 13th regonal champions. Colonels may be a year away from being the top team in the 50th district. One thing is for sure, the Colonels will have the support of the neutral fans in attendance tonight. Everyone likes the underdog come tourney time. Many here have noted the tournament experience on the sidelines and the playing floor for the Cards and that may very well be the difference in the end. Whitley will be pumped early and if they can maintain that level of play for 32 minutes then they will give themselves a shot to advance. One thing is for sure, South Laurel will not quit, then will keep coming til the clock runs out.

Corbin and South both return several very good players (St. John and Madison Johnson among others) and will be tough again.
bigbluefan02 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I'm going to go for Whitley. I think (hope) they can pull off the upset. They may win by one or 10 it doesn't matter, a win is a win. But of course you just can't count out a team coached by Steve Wright and Roscoe Denny. But I am thinking the crowd is a factor in this. But we will see.
The Breeze Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 The crowd may be a factor but South has been in this type of atmosphere many times before. Should be a fun time.
SouthernSportsFan Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Wright is one of the best coaches in the state. South by 12.
DEER H Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 South by 28 and lose to Corbin in Finals by 28.
