Agreed, if he gets us out of the crisis he should be applauded. Just like Bush should be applauded for their being no more attacks on US soil since 01.

 

"He" will not get us out of the crisis. The ONLY thing that has ever gotten us out of these cisis in the past is war & capitalism. The market/economy will heal in spite of what "he" does. He may just prolong it.

I remember what happened and I remember who was leading our country at the time as well.

I never said I had a problem with Bush using the words I mentioned. I am simply trying to prove a point that Obama isn't the first President to use a particular word over and over in order to help get things done.

I have been very negative about the state of the economy and the prospects of it recovering anytime soon.

 

While my negativity can do very little to continue the slide, the President's continued doom-and-gloom can only create a bigger problem with consumer confidence and cause more problems.

 

There are roughly 300 million people in this country. If each of us hear from the President how bad things are and each of us do something as simple as holding onto an extra $100 that we would have otherwise spent, then we have directly shrunk the economy by $30 billion (300 million x $100). Then, because each dollar circulates in the local economy 5 or 6 times, the economy has effectively been effected to the tune of $150 billion plus dollars.

 

Those dollars that are missing from the economy are causing more job losses and a deeper recession. Is all of that the President's fault? No, but he could help things by being a little more positive.

 

Right now, "consumer confidence" is a very big problem. For most people, there is no reason to tighten up. Their jobs are secure and they are not exposed to investments that are impacted by falling real estate values. For them, today is no different than two years ago and they should be spending the same.

That in turn puts both of my kids in precarious situations. I don't believe in sugar-coating the situation. I don't want the president or anyone else glossing over what I know, and am experiencing. If you're well-enough off, or have certain other securities, you may be insulated enough to weather the storm with relatively little lasting impact. For many, though, the situation is dire, and it's possible it won't get better at all, even if things rebound economically. Like it or not, the economic crisis has changed the landscape of the "low to below average" American.

I'm not sure that anyone is being scared by what the President says. Personally, I take comfort that someone in Washington really does see what many Americans are REALLY living. That is quite a change from the last several decades. I think that contrary to your assertion that people fear the truth, they take comfort in knowing that the truth isn't being trivialized.

I guess the only things that work are the things in the past. No sense trying anything new....it's not been tried yet. :idunno:
