History of the 9th region Champions

Nothing like bringing your 3rd grade team into Turner's for the first time and have them walk through the bar to get to the gym.

Also, if Holmes wins region this year, they'll be the only team in 9th region history to ever win 4 titles in a 5 year span more than once.

The 9th has definetly had some great teams throughout the years.

Dude, we get it that you love Holmes. We get it that you think this year's Holmes' team is one of the greatest ever, even before they walk through the region and the state.

But what you've said and the records you're reaching for are simply not true.

Covington Catholic has won it 4 out of 5 years twice, and one time they completed the 5-for-5 sweep. So I guess they've actually done it THREE times.

1966 - 1970: CCH won 4 of 5 years.

1967 - 1971: CCH won 5 of 5 years (not too shabby).

1968 - 1972: CCH won 4 of 5 years.

I've never once said this year's Holmes team was the greatest ever and while I've said they'll likely win region, never did I say they'd walk through the region.

I think you might want to check your years.

Newcath won region in 66 and Holy Cross won region in 72, followed by a 3peat by Newcath.

Also how can you have Covcath winning 4 out 5 two times when your two examples are concurrent with one another? Covcath won 5 straight from 67-71 and that was it.

I was referring to winning 4 titles in 5 years on two separate occasions...not using years 1 through 4 and then 2 through 5 in a 5 peat. .

Not true, CovCath won 4 out of 5 from '66-'70 and from '69 - '73.

Actually Covcath only won 3 out of 5 from 69-73'. They won it in 69, 70 and 71, then Holy Cross won it in 72 and Newcath 3 peated from 73-75.

I understand Jr is now coaching down there. My son went through their program beginning in their 1st grade instructional league. Great instruction on fundamentals.

I was lucky to have Fred Sr. and Fred Jr coach my son for 2 years. What great teaching and coaching.

Tonight is the last game of the season, sure gonna miss the games there.

The simple fact is that Holmes owns the 9th region with 19 regional titles(possible #20 this year), which no one comes close too them. With all their regional titles, they have the greatest tradition from the 9th....period.

I believe Tiger is a Holmes alum, as he's stated several times he was on the 78 (?) Holmes team, which is the reason for his support of Holmes. Come on now Q...you know me personally and know that Tiger would be a little too old to be my dad.

(Just giving ya a hard time Tiger...:thumb:)

I actually was not on the 78 Holmes team. I played varsity 79, 80, and 81.

No problem. :thumb:

My bad. I knew you had said you were on one of the region championship teams that went down state, but wasn't sure which one. :thumb:
