February 5, 200917 yr Author That's an interesting question. I don't know the answer, but I'd assume so. I don't know that it'd be worth it, but it's worth a shot. The Warning says: "For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the Commission's digital television website at: www.DTV.gov" I'd give that a shot, if you'd like to pursue your options... I feel like an idiot. I got it home, everything seemed great. I thought I was being really careful to make sure I got the right thing. There was no such warning on the packaging, nor on the information packaged with the TV. After a week, I threw out the box, and then about a week after that, they did the test, and it didn't work. So....I can't take it back, and I need a converter box. I'm sort of bummed, since it wasn't cheap. :irked: And, I'm really mad at myself.
February 5, 200917 yr There is a limited amount of width available across the part of the electromagnetic spectrum where you find TV and other transmissions. With those transmissions being compressesd into digital format, the rest of the space will go to government and private entities for their own uses. And this was supposed to make it clearer?:isurrender:

What are the private entity possibilities?

February 5, 200917 yr Thank you. And, I didn't complain. I was not calling you an idiot, I was calling the people that COMPLAINED idiots. Hopefully no hard feelings...
February 5, 200917 yr It's a joke this got delayed. They only said it was coming for like 2 years. Come on RM you gotta be ready for big events like this.
February 5, 200917 yr Author I was not calling you an idiot, I was calling the people that COMPLAINED idiots. Hopefully no hard feelings... Not at all! :thumb: I assumed I'd be doing without TV until I was able to get a couple of boxes. I had it all planned to do this week, but the ice storm kinda changed my plans.

February 5, 200917 yr Rockmom, don't worry. I don't have cable or satellite either. In fact, I don't even own a pair of rabbit ears. I get by just fine without it. The cable companies drove me over the edge with their ridiculous pricing. I think that cable should be a la carte and I can pay for the channels I use. Until that happens or until I cave in (I really want the Food Network), I'll watch DVD's, read books, and watch shows on other people's DVR's, and sometimes I'll even download a torrent or two. (Luckily The Wire still isn't going on...or all of this would be null and void) I haven't had cable in a long time and I was at one time the person who had EVERY channel, plus the NFL and MLB tickets. But they drove me over the edge and I have been better off since. Also, like you, I have yet to figure out what the big fuss about Digital TV is. I mean they already have HD channels and the ilk, so what exactly is Digital TV going to do?
February 5, 200917 yr You do realize the program dried up, right? Here's the whole fiasco for me. I've been trying to save for a new TV anyway, since the TV I have will only play DVD's. For some reason, we can't get TV stations on it, after a storm a couple of years ago. My mom and dad got rid of a 13" so that's what we watch TV on. I bought my daughter what I thought was a digital TV for Christmas, and we thought the problem was solved. However, a few weeks ago, they did one of those tests, and SHAZAAAM! (Say that in you best Gomer Pyle voice) It ain't digital after all. As you can tell, I don't do a lot of electronics shopping. Check where you bought your daughter's TV set.. If you bought it this Xmas. it's probably digital... When they ran the test here my TV failed and so did several of my friends sets that we know are digital so the test is not that accurate...Also check the brand and model No. on line to see if it's digital..
February 5, 200917 yr 4 more months of those stupid Digital commericals. That's what I hate. I'm tired of hearing about the dang digital transition (all the time on the radio, TV, internet), but I guess now I get to look forward to 4 more months of it. :irked: I don't understand why some people still aren't prepared for this. You were given a year AND a free coupon for the stupid things. If the gov't thinks that everyone will be ready in 4 more months, they're mistaken. Some people just aren't going to get the converter boxes until their TV cuts out.
