Les Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Once again Red Bird, Jackson Co. and Oneida Baptist voted for the blind draw next year, while North and Clay voted against it. Clay drew Oneida and Jackson will play the winner, while North drew Red Bird.
gchs_uk9 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I don't blame Red Bird and Oneida for voting for the draw, but that's kind of lame on the part of Jackson County. They're a 3A school!
The Breeze Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 IMO all districts should have to draw or seed in the state to make things uniform, I agree Jackson Co. should step up and vote to seed.
Plato Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 KHSAA should mandate that all districts seed - imo.
Les Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 I agree. But I also blame Red Bird and Oneida, too. Look at Williamsburg and the battle they face in their district and you don't see Lynn Camp, Barbourville and Pineville backing down and wanting a blind draw becayse Knox Central is in their district. All a blind draw does is punish the good teams and hurt the fans from seeing the best teams in the 13th Region Tournament. Thank goodness the draw didn't hurt either North or Clay this year.
Bubba Wilson Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Williamsburg is out numbered 3 to 1 in favor of seeding. I am sure if they had their say in things, the luck of the draw would be the Jackets choice. Lynn Camp, Bville, Pineville are 3 class A schools in with one large one. I would say if they were forced to play a two game seeding format that district might take another direction as well. Comparing those situations to the mess in the 49th is not applicable.
big royal daddy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I agree that the KHSAA should mandate all districts should either blind draw or seed, make everyone start out on level slate or so to speak. But to say the top teams get punished during a blind drawis totally false. The smaller, weaker teams are the ones getting punished by having to play the stronger teams first crack out of the box. If the top 2 teams in a region happen to be in the same district so be it, let them play a first round game and one of them go home. Also it allows the weaker teams the opportunity to at least play a regional game every now and then. In my opinion, they should do away with the seeding and go to all blind draw. Besides that, if they seed then instead playing every team in the district once or not at all, you will be required to play every team in your district twice, home and away, and you will lose a possible 3 or 4 home games, or a tournament with guaranteed games because of the games played rule. The 3 or 4 home games lost could be big games on the schedule against top competion from around the state that translate into bigger gate reciepts than that of just playing a district foe that turns into just a few fans showing up. Besides, seeding just leads up to having a class system anyway.

The 51st should have no backing down, 3 small schools and 1 large one. Alot years these teams are fairly equal. This district is much easier than the old 50th for the Knox Co. schools. Pineville is in a better situation as well.
cellking Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 KHSAA should make it uniform acroos board, either one or the other.
wideopen Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 What is the point of playing the regular season district games?
polarbear1994 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) I think that they should seed too. If they do that, for example, Mason would have to schedule St. Pat, Augusta, and Bracken. They'd have to give up some big games, or just forfiet wins against them, take the #4 seed and keep thier schedule strong. Edited February 2, 2009 by Ram Rule 13
