I heard on the game Monday because I guees of Boyd's Departures they were playing an 8th grade on the Varsity against West.

 

The 8th Grader has been on Varsity from day one.

Anybody know WHY they left this late in the season?

 

Interesting question. I could give my opinion, but maybe someone with more insight could fill you in on the answer.

I do not kow form the start of the year. But Steele who was their best player and the bit 6'6" Messer kid over the past couple of weeks.

 

Hall is probably their best player, and he is still there, but Steele was a very large asset to the team. Losing Steele, Wilson and Messer were large losses.

Not sure where this is leading, but yes himself and the Freshmen play more minutes than the Sophomores. I am not a judge to whom is better or who deserves the playing time, just stating the facts.

Not leading anywhere just wondering because playing and dressing are to completely different issues.

I wasn't aware that there was a change in the grade school system. I know that for years the grade schools in Ashland were only allowed to schedule each other except for a couple of tournaments.

 

A couple of years ago, there was a big and impressive article in the newspaper about Hager's Sixth Grade team winning over 50 games in a row in their years at Hager. It sounded great until I was told that the record was built by beating Ashland's other elementary teams and not by beating the best in the area.

 

I also believe that that same Hager team was sort of "tricked" into playing Rose Hill in a tournament, possibly at Russell (I do know that Ashland's elementary teams are forbidden from playing Rose Hill even in charitable tournaments). Needless to say, Rose Hill cleaned the undefeated Hager team by a rather big margin.

 

Assuming all this is true, it serves as a good example of why Ashland struggles at most all levels in basketball. You can't continually hide.

Is one of those things about 5"1 and screams :scared:go -go-go-go and is the other thing about 6"4 and screams :bunny:jump at the ball -jump at the ball!

 

Well let's just say this I've been around the Ashland program for 25 years and the problems have stayed the same for at LEAST that long. Ask yourself this question why is it the successful coaches they've had don't stay around long? Breeden, Hall(Jeff NOT Steve), Craynor Slone, etc. etc. etc. all left for what many coaches would consider lessor positions. So then ask yourself this question. Who or what has been around the program for 30yrs? I believe over the years, Ashland basketball has brought itself down because of the politics surrounding their program. Good coaches have left, players have left or quit. If you add 1+1 it always equals 2 !!!!

Boyd County basketball woes starts in the grade school where the teams are not associated with schools anymore. The high school team is really being hurt by the feeder system. I would like to thank the 3 seniors left at Boyd Co on the hustle an there dedication, Hall keep up the great work and good things will happen for you. Pennington, Foster same for you keep up the good work. The freshman and 8th grader all play and work hard for the team, the freshman team has had there best season in three years they are like i believe 11-3 , I think if B/C learns to play as a TEAM and keep there heads up things will get better. Keep on working hard

Politics, parents not letting coaches coach will always be around, Just let the kids play and have a good time, that should be all that really matters.

Absolutely not. My question was centered around these to programs because they were the standard by which others were measured. Boyd has been down for many years and Ashland is heading down the same road, IMHO.

I believe I know where your going. I too think this is part of the problem but I remember plenty of my buddies who wanted Mike Flynn gone. I thought that was a mistake then and I still think it was a mistake.

 

Well it goes without saying that there are more problems than I thought. Whats the solution?

I didn't mean to leave anyone out they all are working there tails off, and all are dedicated from seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen, and the 8th grader.

 

I never mentioned anything about making up a lineup/ I just stated that the freshman had a good year. Also the JV has a good year. Don't know why your so negative. I believe Gindelsperger is a junior.
