Eta Rho Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Right around this time last year the same question came up whether or not Holmes could run the table in nky and head in to the post season at 28-1. Ryan Ernst posted the following blog yesterday, right on cue: We all knew heading into the Northern Kentucky boys' basketball season that Holmes was the team to beat. Most had the Bulldogs pegged as a top-five team in the state. I figured they'd have about four losses heading into the postseason: one to Scott County, two more in invitationals and maybe one resulting from an off night on the road against a hot-shooting Northern Kentucky team. But past the midway point of the regular season, Holmes is 16-1 heading into Saturday's game against Largo (Md.) in the Laurel County Hoopfest. If the Bulldogs get out of there with a victory, there's a very good chance they could enter the postseason with a 28-1 record. The biggest remaining roadblocks: Jan. 31 at Scott, Feb. 6 vs. Highlands, Feb. 7 vs. Hazard and Feb. 10 at Boone County. OhYeaYouThink Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I think they likely will if they get past this Maryland team. Don't see them losing to Highlands, or Boone or Scott.
Eta Rho Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 I think if they can get through the 5 day stretch where they play Highlands, Hazard, and then Boone, it's very likely that they run the table in nky not only for the regular season but also post season. There's a very good chance Holmes could head in to Rupp with a 33-1 record and if they make it to atleast the semi's break the all time school record for wins in a season with 35.

wildcatfan Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Seems like the only way they will lose could be if a team gets hot from 3-point land. Boone still tries to play inside too much IMO.
Dowork Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I'm pulling for them, this teams looks better than last years imo.
Tiger1 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 No one in NKY will beat this team. If I am calculating correctly, they would be 33-1 heading into the state tourney. Does this sound about right?

Does this sound about right? If they don't lose before heading to Rupp they'd be 33-1. Holmes has a chance to finish 37-1 this year if they don't lose another game. Still a lot of games left to be played though before we start talking about that. Either way, this years' team should break some school records held by the 78', 90', and 08' teams.

I know these three great Holmes team finished:78' 34-2, 80' 33-3, 08' 34-3. But what did the 90' team finish with?
tezzyrice Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I hope they run the table. On a side note Holmes is ranked in the top 30 in at least two national polls. http://highschool.rivals.com/viewrankhs.asp?ra_key=597
Obie1 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I predict a Holmes loss on Febuary 13th. Things have a way of repeating themselves. They have lost to this team 4 out of the last 5.
Tiger1 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I predict a Holmes loss on Febuary 13th. Things have a way of repeating themselves. They have lost to this team 4 out of the last 5. They won't lose to NewCath at Holmes. Forget about it.

Actually Newcath has won 3 of the last 5...not 4 out of last 5. 07/08: Newcath 47 Holmes 46 @Newcath 06/07: Holmes 58 Newcath 41; Holmes 59 Newcath 44 (Both at Holmes) 05/06: Newcath 58 Holmes 55 @ Newcath 04/05: Newcath 61 Holmes 51 @ Holmes I'd be hard pressed to believe NCC, or any team for that matter beats Holmes at Holmes this year though. If they lose to a nky opponent it will be a road game. They won't lose on their home floor this year.
