NKY fans: Can Holmes run the table?

Featured Replies

I agree completely with you. The one biggest thing that should be noted though is in that 8 game stretch, only two of those games are on the road...@ Scott 1/31 and @ Boone 2/10.

I don't see any of those other teams being able to knock Holmes off at Holmes. It's tough enough to beat them in your own gym, let alone on the road in a hostile environment.

All good points. If any team does do it, I guess I really don't have to say that they'll have to have the most unbelievable game of their lives. Nonetheless, it's still going to be pretty exciting to see how it all plays out. This slim chance, at this point, along with high hopes for NewCath down in Richmond, are all I have left to keep this ALL Bulldog season interesting before they represent the 9th at Rupp. If you're a fan of the 9th Region following no particular favorites, it's more fun when you think there's a hair of a chance that there's more games to come worthy of me getting off my rump to go out and see. If I allow myself to completely buy that the Bulldogs really won't be contested much, I might as well pack it up for the season. That's just my delusion I suppose. I just gotta keep it interesting for myself one way or another. You being a Bulldogs fan all the way are most probably just seeing it the way you do simply from (cough cough) facts alone. I agree that your facts alone (cough cough) hold more merit than does my delusion.

How many nky teams have run the table against nky competition in the past 10 years?

I know Covcath did it in 03/04 and Brossart did it I think in 04/05 maybe?

Holmes toughest remaining games are Highlands, Boone, and Hazard.

Holmes will beat NCC, Campbell Co, Scott, and Dixie by 10+. None of those teams have the size or athleticism to contend with Holmes. As far as Conner, I think Holmes may have overlooked them first go around. I see Holmes beating them by around 15 in the second game.

Eta, you don't give NCC enough credit. They beat your Birds on their home floor and even missed 19 freethrows and minus a key player. You picked against them in the All-A with St. Henry and Newport. They will give Holmes a good game, and if Highlands get by Newport in the district, they lose again to the Breds.

The thing with NCC is they're inconsistent. They just won the All A but then they also have losses to teams like Newport and Dixie who really aren't that great this year. They also have an 18 point loss to Boone.

The early season win over Highlands was also when the football kids were getting their legs under them and Willie was still trying to find the right combination of players and rotation. They may very well give Holmes a good game, but I don't see them beating either Holmes or Highlands in the district finals.

Only time will tell chief.

yes

There is a lot of basketball left to be played this year but from what I have seen of this Holmes team they are the best team I have ever seen in NKY (for me that would only cover the last 20 years or so). Great defensive team, great athleticism, some great individual players (how many teams in NKY have had two high division one basketball player play together and keep in mind they are still only juniors) yet very well balanced in that the other players are also very good players, ability to score in multiple ways inside and out and very disciplined and well coached. I suppose another way to look at it is what team can you remember that you would have favored to beat this team on a neutral court. Even though all teams have off nights I expect them to run the table in NKY play. I have no affiliation or connection with them in any way but I wish them the best in hopefully a successful quest to represent and win NKY's second state titile.

I've seen NCC more than a couple of times, they are not that good. Very, very inconsistant. :idunno:

I know this blog is on Holmes (great team this year, good chance to run the table.) I don't ever offer excuses for a teams loss, but since you mentioned the Football legs. NCC lost a key player to a broken arm the 1st game of the season, had no big men(football, injuries) against Boone, Senior retreat Fri/Sat/Sun, when they lost to Dixie on Monday. Newport had a 20 point lead, only to win on a hail mary. The 3 losses Lex Cath, Trinity, Madisonville, I see them winning if they had their missing starter. The kid is finally back, same kid that had 8 boards and 8 points in the Dawgs loss to NCC last year. I think the NCC/ Holmes game will be closer than you think, and I don't see Highlands beating NCC this year. Like you said, time will tell.
