Before I even open these...I am hoping that I'll see Crabtree going to the Bungles. Dang, Mel has them making the intelligent pick.
January 22, 200917 yr Could somebody paste the first round on here if possible, I am blocked at work from that site.
January 22, 200917 yr Nope, we can't post the whole list, someone can post the first few on it but then we need to link back to the rest of the content.

Can't someone just list the picks in order, instead of posting everything within the link? I'm sure the link contains pick #, team, player, and Mel's tidbit of info on the player. Wouldn't it be OK if someone just posts the pick# and player? The reason I ask is because Insider is a subscriber only site.
January 22, 200917 yr Right now you can view his 1st 16 picks for free. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=3850049
January 22, 200917 yr It's not much different from McShay's actually. I don't know about the Darius Heyward-Bey at 25 to Miami. I haven't really seen much from him. He's a physical specimen, but I have never been impressed with his route running or ability to adjust to coverage. I really like the Hakeem Nicks to Minnesota. I'm a Minnesota guy and this is the kind of big physical receiver they need. If there was some kind of miracle and Sanchez dropped or another Quarterback had a good combine I wouldn't be opposed to taking a Quarterback there. I just don't think Gus Freotte is the long term solution and Tavarris Jackson gives the Vikes the added element of a scrambler but his passing game and mechanics need to be improved before Minnesota will be a legitimate threat in the NFC. Another thing to think about for all of the teams that play in a dome-Indy, Minnesota, Atlanta, and New Orleans. What does everyone think about taking a Percy Harvin/Maclin type if they fall to your team? I remember watching Harvin in 2006 in the Georgia Dome during the SEC title game and he was faster than I've ever seen them. And every team is beginning to implement some elements of the spread into their system, so a pick like that would not be wasted. I think Hakeem Nicks will end up being the steal of the draft along with Andre Smith. I am still not sold on Stafford or Sanchez really. It is a pretty weak year for QB's IMO. Stafford has an amazingly strong arm and can be deadly accurate when he WANTS to be. His decision making and football IQ need to be refined severely IMO. He always seemed to have trouble with reading coverage and I always (in person once against UF) saw that he would attempt force passes to AJ Green, throwing passes into double, triple and sometimes quadruple coverage. Maybe he will land with a team that will let him sit for a while because he has the tools to be a very good quarterback, but if he gets taken 1st overall I see him playing right away and that will really hurt his development. As for Sanchez, he is the best of all of the Quarterbacks that Carroll has had physically, but he has only one year of experience as a starter. So is he ready to play QB in the NFL right now? I don't think he is ready if he gets thrown into the fire right away. He has a very good arm and if allowed to sit could be the most successful QB from the Pete Carroll years IMO.

What's funny is that everyone said the same thing about the draft last year. Meanwhile two rookie QBs led their teams to the playoffs, one to the AFC championship. Thinking back, those two certainly would'nt have been picked to do that on this board a year ago.

When their defense is healthy and can stay that way for an entire season, the Ravens are always in the hunt regardless of who is taking snaps. They've cycled through several QB's since winning a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. I don't think Flacco was asked, nor required, to do nearly as much for his team to be successful as Matt Ryan was in Atlanta. I do like Flacco's potential though...for the first time I actually think the Ravens might have the guy to solidify that position for a decade or so. Which is about right, because the defense is probably near the end of its dominating run. But, nevertheless, Flacco was the starting QB for a team that advanced to the AFC Title game. That is a fact.

I agree with you on all points. I was merely pointing out that last year we heard many of the same "weak year for QBs" musings, yet here we sit with two rookies in the playoffs, one of those directly responsible for his teams success. A year ago this time we were hearing how Ryan was overrated, how Woodson would still be a top choice and it was "just Mike Martz's system", and how Brohm would be the best of them all. Check out these threads for some entertainment......man are we bad a picking the future.:ohbrother: http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=142600&highlight=senior+bowl+henne http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=142398&highlight=senior+bowl+henne
January 22, 200917 yr I never had a problem with Matt Ryan. I actually thought he was the best "pure" QB in the country last year. I was skeptical about Flacco, because I had not seen much of him. But both have something Sanchez doesn't. More than one year of starting experience. I stated above that I thought he could eventually become a decent to good Quarterback in the NFL. As for Stafford, he has some amazing physical tools too. I just see him being nothing more than a Jay Cutler. Big arm, poor decision maker. Freeman and Davis could both be decent Quarterbacks, Freeman is a very good talent and Davis has multiple years of starting experience. So both could turn out to be decent QB's in the NFL

January 24, 200917 yr Goodness...I stink at picking QBs!!! It happens, I picked New England and San Fran to be in the Super Bowl last season (2007-2008). I guess I thought Frank Gore wouldn't put on 300 pounds, Alex Smith wouldn't choke and Nate Clements would play some Defense.
