Little NFL trivia I heard today

Featured Replies

Not sure, but Booker is not the answer. The Bears player was a return specialist, and he made the Pro Bowl as such.

Hester has been so good I cant remmeber anyone before him.

Since 1987, the Walter Payton Award has been given out to the most outstanding offensive football player in the FCS (D-1 AA). Among the recipients, only 5 have gone on to make an NFL Pro Bowl. Who are these five players? As a hint, I will give the year that they won the award and the year(s) that they were in the Pro Bowl (as well as the team for the more difficult ones)

1988 WP Award, Pro Bowler in 1989 (NY Giants), 1996 (NE Patriots)

1994 WP Award, Pro Bowler in 2000, 2003, 2005

1998 WP Award, Pro Bowler in 2003 (Chicago Bears)

2001 WP Award, Pro Bowler in 2004, 2007

2002 WP Award, Pro Bowler in 2006, 2007

1994 was Steve Air McNair from Alcorn State-McNair was one of the best college football players ever, he would have dominated D-1 IMO, 1998 was Jerry Azzumah from New Hampshire, 2001 was Brian Westbrook from Nova and 2002 is Tony Romo? from Eastern Illinois. I know 94, 98 and 01 for sure but 2002 and 1988 are sketchy. I pride myself on knowing where everyone-well almost everyone-went to college in the NFL and NBA.

Randy Moss? I know Marshall was still 1-AA when he played there.

They weren't his last year there, they made the transition to D-1 in 1997. I remember watching the MAC championship game between Marshall and Toledo. It was so cold that it was almost painful to breathe and it seemed like Moss had 12 touchdowns in that game-I think the actual # was 4 or 5.

So assuming your right and Id say you are, who in the world is 1988?

Randy Moss? I know Marshall was still 1-AA when he played there.

Nope- was not a Walter Payton award winner.

Tom Waddle?

Nope. More recently.

Since you all got the three most difficult ones (and a big kudos to BigSpikes on getting Jerry Azumeh), I'll give some more hints.

1988 WP winner was a running back at Towson but also an NFL return specialist. He played in 2 Super Bowls, recording over 100 all-purpose yards in both games. He played for Bill Parcells with 3 different teams, and has a son who is a running back at the University of Maryland.

I think I got you now, is it Dave Meggett? I know that he is from a small school and was an all-purpose back and played for the Giants when they beat the Bills 1990. He may be too young though. Although I may not be right, I want to say Meggett either went to Towson or Richmond. One of those schools by D.C.

Very impressive, BigSpikes! Well done.

I try, like I said, I pride myself on knowing where just about every NBA and NFL player went to college.

Well since I've been alive. My mom bought me an ESPN almanac and the College Fooball encyclopedia a few years back and I read both a few times. Gimme some time and I may have one for you guys.

Who is the only current NFL kicker to win the Lou Groza award twice in college?
