Softball Field Excuses

Featured Replies

My daughter plays softball for her school also travel ball and basketball and me and my wife are involved with both programs. We have been to alot of softball fields over the years. In the 16th region i see alot of improvements over the years and totally new fields and buildings. I need some information on how other teams are getting thes facilitys. Because in my daughters school district we are getting nothing but excuses thanks.

Bath County just got a new field in conjunction with their parks and rec. department. It is a very nice facility. They've turned their old field into a practice facility.

Most likely the excuses are going to require you and other parents and the staff to do it yourself. I was involved in a program that had the parents essentially build and maintain the field. We even went and got stands from other high schools and brought them over to our place.

Keep in mind if you move Bleachers, from one location to another, than they must comply with current Building Code regulations and requirements.

Simple way, is to have the Title IX group get involved, to see what improvements or additions are needed, to begin and complete a Softball facility.

Title IX has been brought around the strong group of parents we have. But we dont want to go there if we dont have to. The parents we have do alot but there is alot of title IX issues with are facility that dont match up.

In Kenton County School Distr. Simon Kenton and Dixie have received new complexs and they were approved through phases in new building throughout the district. I would hope Scott is in the next phase.

Sometimes you must force their hand.

I'm afraid that is what its going to come down to. Because at this point were getting the run around.

Uh believe me Title IX does help it did for our program-- However, we still are not equal.. Close... Our girls still don't have a coach.... How sad is that....

North and South Laurel are very fortunate that in the past, the adminstration has been pretty supportive of the softball programs. They are both in the top 7 for all time wins in KHSAA history (NL #1 with 455 and SL #7 with 381 wins) and a big part of that is the support. Both facilities are very nice and both schools have had Miss Softball (Hawkins from SL and Abner from NL). I expect with Durham (former NL coach) as the AD at North Laurel and former baseball coach Gilbert as the AD at South that this support won't change at all.

Corbin and Whitley County have some of the nicest softball facilities in the SEKY area and Corbin is an up and coming program.

If your school is not giving the support they should give, then by all means use Title IX to give them a level playing field.

The tough spot comes with the backlash that can be caused for the coaching staff. The key defining word is support and that varies depending on the location an/or size of the school. The backlash can come from within the school where coaches may hold their jobs. I can definitely see where Title IX has its advantages for bringing and upstart program or an established one the proper facilities to continue their success though.

Scott's does pale in comparison.

I can understand this and we dont want this to happen. That really is a sad day that this could happen. When we have brought are conserns to the district before we have said this is not the coach or staff.

So does this mean that the coach and his staff are okay with the current conditions?

You might have already tried but I would talk to your school AD and if that doesn't work have a meeting with the school board.
