One style. All the rings look the same. Two types of metal which give you the high and low price.

It isn't about the ring. I could care less about mine. I could count on one hand the number of times I've even worn mine. It's all about the work, the season we played, the championship, and the integrity of the young men on the team who put in the work for the title.

All true, but the “ring” is a physical symbol of that hard work, success, and the championship that most players I know wear proudly.

It isn't that I'm not proud of my state ring, or that I'm not proud when I do wear it, but I just think that, personally at least, it's about knowing that I have the title of "state champion" behind my team's name, my high school's name, and even my name in some kind of way.

 

...and it's not that I have a problem with a ring, per se. That's great if you want to show off the fact that you're a state champion - may not be my style - but if you want to, more power to you. However, when you're talking busting $800 on a shiny clump of metal and stones to brag on yourself, I'd say go take a hike. There's no need to spend anywhere near that kind of money on that. Most guy's wedding rings don't cost half of that, and those are WAY more significant. Honestly, when you're 45 or 50 years old, how often are you going to be wearing that ring around town showing off your football championship title from 30 years back? Why spend all of that cash on something that, in all likelihood, is going to end up in a box on your dresser 99% of the time once high school is in the past?

Because it's a once (or maybe more!) in a lifetime opportunity to own something that shows that you were a state champion. Since it is a one time fee, spending money on a ring is worth it to me.

I would much rather spend a few hundred dollars on a championship ring than a class ring that everyone who graduates has.

 

Maybe championship rings are a dime a dozen up in the NKY area with CCHS, HHS, NCC, and Beechwood, but down here in the southwestern part of the state they are much rarer.
