There are college teams that get a ring for going to a bowl game, but not necessarily win the game. If I am not mistaken Georgetown College got rings for being runner-up in 2002, maybe. I am not stating that as fact, but I believe I heard that somewhere... The ring is sacred. There was an article in ESPN The Magazine a few years back about championship rings. The article stated that a championship ring is to a guy, what an engagement ring is to a woman. If there is a championship ring in the room, chances are a guy will ask to see it....

 

Georgetown College would have been a conference championship ring with national runner up mentioned on it.

Now I'll definitely agree with you there.

 

I just keep thinking, $800 is a small price to pay thinking that someday my son's will be able to show their grandsons their state rings. And the stories that will go along with it are priceless.

I would much rather spend a few hundred dollars on a championship ring than a class ring that everyone who graduates has.

 

Maybe championship rings are a dime a dozen up in the NKY area with CCHS, HHS, NCC, and Beechwood, but down here in the southwestern part of the state they are much rarer.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to lessen the value of the championship title. I'm just suggesting that the rings are not so important.

 

Something to pondering for some perspective: The average Olympic gold medal costs just over $300 USD to have made. The Olympics only occur every 4 years...and Olympic gold medalists are the champions of the WORLD.

I disagree. I believe they are important to the players who win the championship. Just like the Olympic medals, the ring is a symbol of success.
